Pat, I've been comparing your reports to observed conditions and they don't match at all.

It's cold and there aren't any waves.

Precisely why you buy the related diag equipment. Like I said, GT-1 or even the new MOST bus programmer is available for around 2k on the grey market. I'll be picking on up eventually, because I anticipate needing access to to it when folks who I know with one may not be available.

If you are keeping a car for 5-10 years(our plan with the 530xiT)...a 2k dollar investment is pretty small. Especially when that tool can be used on other cars you may own. It's really not bad.
