Speedometer Accuracy??

Has anyone noticed that their speedometer registers @ 5 mph above actual speed when traveling between 60-70 mph. Could this have an effect the on the odometer? Please provide comments - Thank you.

It is a common occurance in many cars. BMW's read around 5% over from what I have seen, but good luck finding any car that is actually 100% accurate with the speedo. It probably will mess with the odometer in the long run, but I don't know how they could make it perfect, since I have yet to drive a car with a perfectly accurate speedo

This is normal for most manufacturers and it has no affect on the speedo. You can code a digital speedo that shows your actual speed.

My concern was that on a leased car, if the odometer was affected by a faulty speedometer, you may be paying for miles that you are not using. I guess from what you are saying, it is a non issue. Thanks!

the car knows exactly how fast its going, and how far its traveling. the speed displayed on the speedo dial is 'corrected' for 'your convenience'
