325d N57 rough idling
Hello,
I have a 325D M sport, this is my second one as the first one I bought was returned within 6 days due to similar problems. I made a thread initially stating what's the best maintenance practices for the motors the link being https://www.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...php?p=25184813 I then picked another 25D up. It's 2011, had 90k miles. Oil servicing average every 12k miles. The very next day I start the car up from cold and it idles roughly for 30ish seconds, just like my previous one. I checked diagnostics, no error codes apart from intelligent battery sensor. No glowplug faults or swirlflaps etc. The DPF seems to be generating okay. I put some redex into the car but it hasn't really done anything. However I do recall a couple of times when starting the engine the rough idling does not happen The other 25D I had, my mechanic said from experience it's probably 6 plugs and relay which need doing, however on my current one such codes don't exist. My thoughts are down to the EGR, could be caked up in shite but I'm not sure. I'm the average diyer so would this removing the EGR a difficult procedure? There's are fair few videos on the M57 35D but not on the n57. My budget is very tight atm so I don't really want to be spending money at all tbf, but I'm guessing as the winter progresses, the problems only going to get worse? Can anyone shed some light on this Thanks Reece |

The only problem I had with an M57 idling roughly was an E39 530d. I tracked this down to one of the metal pipes to one of the injectors drawing air in. I found it by watching the 6 injectors on live data with inpa. I could see the other 5 were very similar but the 6th completely different so I nipped up the banjo nuts to that injector which sorted it!
As for the EGR, you can see inside it by taking just the pipe off the front and look inside with a torch. Mine was nice and clean when I checked but my mates e60 was very clogged. |

egr is quite easy to clean..and to see if its operating,,but you could disonnect the vacuum hose to it,,then see if it improves,,it will throw a light on dash but will go out when you get it hooked back up...
