Preventing Theft?

Hi All,

I've been told by a neighbour that somebody was lurking around by my bimma and then sped off.. Whether or not they're looking for key stealing features like Start/Stop Keyless Entry and what not I don't know but I'm now pondering about what I can do. Viper alarms are great but the good ones seem to cost around £550.

Disklok seems good but it can be broken into with some brute force according to a review site.

One random thing that I sometimes do when I need to leave the engine running but also need to leave the car to check something in the engine department is pull off the transmission shifter.. I'm not sure if over time that may affect the shifter?

I was also thinking of relocation the wires to the start stop button or maybe adding in a kill switch...

Anyway let me know if you have any good ideas

Any kind of visible deterrent such as a steering, gear shift lock, wheel clamp would put off most car theifs. Unless they were specifically looking to take your car most of them would just leave yours & find something easier to steal.
You could adjust the driver seat so as it's raised as high & as far forward as it'll go, if you have electric seats it takes quite a while readjust the seat.

That's a good thought about the electric seats I don't have them but just visualising somebody waiting for them to go back would be stupidly long

For now I've ordered a Disklok from Halfords and I've also done something else which would put a full stop to things as well as pulling off the shifter .. I think those two is enough just until tomorrow.

Same car and same age too! After my e36 got stolen I got paranoid so I’ve now got a disklok which helps me sleep a little easier at night. I know my 330d is nowhere near as desirable to thieves as the M3 was but you never know. Diskloks aren’t foolproof but do seem to be the best visual deterrent and are thantham approved.
At the end of the day nothing will stop a determined thief but if you make your car harder to steal then they are more likely to move on.
