E90 high seating position

What's up guys? I know it's been discussed before and I know some have complained but I never found the E90 to have a high seating position but recently I was driving a new 430GC around and wow you sit so much lower. Just making discussion I still don't really care just found it pretty interesting.

As a side note, the seating position was one of the only things I liked more about the f30 than the E90. Steering wasn't even close. The 2.0 has more torque than my 328 but it still needs to see above 3k rpms every shift. And after a long drive it averaged 33 mpg highway. (My 328 sees 32-33 on Highway as well) so... I don't know. Although that zf 8 speed is pretty damn good. I kinda fantasize about what the N52 would be like paired to that thing with it's close gear ratios. After driving that 2.0 I failed to see why they even dropped the NA 6. This kind of turned into a rant but overall I would probably be happy with an f30 as a commuter if I had something more fun. Overall it was quite dull compared to our cars.

Share your experiences if you wish. Take care.

N52 with a ZF 8 speed would be cool for sure. As far as seating position, I don't really find the E90 to be very high. To be fair, I've never driven an F30 and my other vehicle is a Jeep with a suspension lift. I will say I drove an Infiniti G37x and that had an oddly high seating position.

Yeah the f30 lets you lower the seat fairly low it's very noticeable when you switch between the two.

really? My e90 sitting position can be set to any. I love it. Its like a cockpit. I mean I have sport seats, that make a difference too.

F30 feels like sitting on a office chair in my opinion. Not sure what are you talking about...

That was my thought too the first time I drove an E90, and what I loved about it.

The lowest setting on the F30 is definitely lower than the E90 at least in my experience.

Is it possible that because there is more height in the cabin space that it feels like it's sitting lower?

Perhaps. I referenced it to how high the dash looked compared to where I was sitting. I'm 6 foot and I can't lower the e90s seats to the point where I lose sight of the dash at all even when adjusting the steering wheel. Could be that the F30s dash sits higher? Who knows. Again just an observation I never did and still don't have a problem with the e90s seating position.

it's amazing how every year these cars get like 1" taller/wider/longer. The F30 is a friggn' land yacht.

Yeah when the F30 came out I read some where that it was bigger than the BMW E34 5 Series and the same size as the BMW E39 5 Series! And the F10 5 series was the same size as the BMW E38 7 series

They always felt like a cockpit that since the first time I sat in my first BMW (1995 318i) I realized that is what I love most about these cars. BMW as a car maker designs and builds these cars around the engine and the driver first. All else follow.

My 1995 318i

My 2001 330i

My 2011 335i

And then you have the 2018 M5 cockpit!

Interesting point as I too drove a 430 GC and I had similar experiences as you have. I'm not sure if your E90 has manual seat adjusters as mine but that's the one point I thought the 430 was lacking. Then again with the dash being so high I'm not sure who'd want to sit that low.

Overall the GC wasn't bad at all. Sport mode certainly tightened things up steering wise. I think features as all coupes are in the BMW family arrive loaded from factory. The price tag is what got me then as it was just shy of an F80.

it's literally a foot longer, a foot taller (at least), and 6" wider than my E30.

and yeah, the E90 is big too - but the 5 series is perfect for my family.

Yeah... 430gc xdrive with moderate options (still had a few to go) and it sat just over 61k... I as blown away. Rather get into a used f80 for that money.

You can get the ZF 8 speed / N52 combo in the 2011 x3 and 528i.

My thoughts exactly, I feel and the dims confirm that I am sitting very low. The cowl is low too, which is a bit unerving if you are the passenger.

In My brothers 2017 M240i, I feel like I am sitting much higher and the cowl is higher and 'longer'. It feels more comfortable as such but less sporty.

The E90 seats are supportive but not overly comfortable. Volvo makes very comfortable seats.

Yeah, same here. Honestly, wish a swap were easy. I'd consider it given the mediocre performance that embodies the current auto trans. It's definitely the weak link in the E90 N52 automatic platform.

Likely, it bolts up, but what about the electronics, D/S, etc.?

I agree! The E90 feels like a driver oriented cockpit. The F30 feels too wide and big, not as nimble as the E90. The seating position in the F30 is higher than that of the E90. Ground clearance is also higher on the F30 than the E90 (comparing non sport package F30 328i to Non sport package E90 328i).

Overall I like the E90 much better than the F30!
