New + question (Re: adding a sub)
Well glad I found this place. I turned in my 02 z3 coupe and I guess grew up and got a 325i with the SP. However, I miss the little sub I used to have in the z3 behind the drivers seat.
Without having gotten the Premium sound option, is there a good suggestion to add an amp to drive a small sub in the trunk? I have read some of the threads on wiring etc etc, but has anyone done this, is it safe to trust Best Buy/Circuit city? |

I had these Bazookas that already have a built in amp and easy enough to hook up to a stock radio. Check crutchfield online. They don't take up much room and come in 6", 8", 10" and maybe 12". You can try JL Audio and see if there is a stealth box for it. http://mobile.jlaudio.com/products_s...4&model_id=140
I'm sure they will come out with one, but it appears they don't have one for the 2006. I have one for my Maxima and it sounds great and is customed molded for my car and take up very little space.

Well, someone in another board suggested a bazooka so I decided to go to see an audio installer in town. He said anything less than either removing the rears and replacing them with sub(s) or filling the trunk with speakers (and therefore shaking the whole thing) would be a waste of money. He suggested another installer.
I went to that installer (he had a bunch of trophies and he was doing the sweetest freaking Turbocharged M3 I have ever been in the presence of). He suggested that given the non-folding seats and the limited crawlspace in the rear speaker deck, to fit a single 500W amp driving 2 12's shooting to the rear with dynomat all over the trunk to reduce vibration. The thing is I listen to punk rock and jazz so the idea of having a booty mobile is not very appealing. Can someone with Premium audio tell me how the 2 included subs are mounted and where/how. This will give me a better idea on commiting to that setup. Oh and by the way he wanted $1100 for it. |

How would you compare the handling or your Z3 to that of the 325i? |

Thx!
Well I have to be honest, that z3 handled like a dream. Then again it was (or it felt like) a whole foot lower. A lot lighter and a hella lot shorter. Apples and oranged I would say. It was the 3.0C not the z3MC.
But I dont regret the change. The z3 had 50K so instead of keeping it I traded it in for the 325i (leased both) and lowerd my payments by about $100. (0 down on both) |
