Has anyone tried to use a PLX Kiwi Wifi to OBD cable vs ethernet? That thing is pretty useless for me now, so perhaps I can convert it to ethernet and chop off the wifi end. Or, k+dcan obd to usb?
Update: I gave up on the PLX Device for this and went with the ethernet to obd adapter. Just plug into your wireless router, wait forever and type in the ip address in the first post. It'll prompt you to login w/out changing any network settings. Last edited by adonnan; 06-21-2017 at 02:52 PM.. |

E61 11/2009 - No success with AX88772A USB Ethernet adapter
Quote:
I am trying to generate the FSC code myself. I have an E61 from 11/2009. It has CIC and a USB disk with the Europe Premium 2017 maps is recognized and I am asked to input the activation code. I purchased a cheap USB Ethernet adapter from eBay which has an AX88772A chip on it (recognized by Windows and I opened it, too, confirming the IC). However, when I connect the USB Ethernet adapter to the USB port in the handglove department and using either straight or crossed ethernet cable, my laptop will say that no cable is connected. This means that the adapter is not recognized by my car. I tested the USB Ethernet adapter with my laptop and it works ok. Also, as suggested in this thread, I configured the adapter to use 100MBPS Full Duplex instead of AUTO NEGOTIATION. No success whatsoever. It seems to me that the driver is not installed on my CIC. Any ideas what could be wrong? Also, how can I confirm the firmware version of CIC? Basically I tried so far: 1) Using the OBDM cable -> can read the car VIN, but fails to read the data from step 2. This is a known issue. 2) I don't own an ICOM cable (I am just an amateur, doing it for fun - I know I could just buy the FSC code, but there is no fun in it. Also, I live in Portugal and m installed 2014 maps are pretty up to date anyway...) 3) I think the ENET cable won't work in my car. 4) The USB EThernet adapter doesn't work. Has anyone had success with an E60/E61 from 2009 with CIC? Regards, vma |

But if your CIC was installed at the factory, an ENET cable should work |

My computer won't let me run the fsc.exe, keep popping up a Trojan.Gen.2 virus error and quarantining the fsc.exe file. Any one else run into this problem?

Hello,
For all E60/E61 owners, since I have not found this on any forum: I successfully extracted the necessary file out using the ENET adapter. My car was delivered new with CIC. It is from 11/2009. I was not expecting ENET to work, but it did! I just ordered the cheapest ENET adapter I could find on eBay from China. It cost me 2.79 Euro with free shipping. Took about 3 weeks to arrive. First test I did was to connect the ENET to my car and the ethernet cable to a spare router, just to check if the connection LED would go on. It did! Then I connected it with the (straight) ethernet cable directly to my laptop, set the static IP4 settings to IP 169.254.199.98, 255.255.255.0 and gateway to 169.254.199.99. Opened ftp://169.254.199.99 with FIREFOX (IEXPLORER did not work) and was presented with the login window. From here I just followed the instructions as usual. Note that the Europe West Premium 2017-2 is 0x28 0x2b for the fsc.bat. Regards, vma |

Hi,
I was now trying to connect to a BMW F30 (2013) using ENET. I can ping to either 169.254.199.99 or 160.48.199.99 (doing a reboot of the CIC, when changing network settings). This means that there is a network connection. No packets are lost and all seems OK. However, as opposed to my E61, on this F30 I have no success opening ftp://169.254.199.99 or ftp://160.48.199.99. I simply get no response. It seems the CIC is not running any FTP server. Did this happen to anyone? Any ideas? I also have the ASIX USB to Ethernet adapter, but this car seems to only have a USB connector in the middle console. No port on the glove department. I didn't even try it. Is it worth a shot? Regards, vma |

I did this last night. For some reason, my CIC's IP address switched to a different network and I was unable to log into it. Randomly after 10 minutes, it rebooted and went back to 169.254.199.99.
I used WinSCP to snag the file, and I generated a lifetime FSC code without a problem using OP's instructions. I could not log into the directory tree through Chrome; I had to use WinSCP. I'm all set up and good to go with 2017-1 maps Phew! Updating your CIC map on a BMW: |
