so...I built a thing

so, I went foraging on the internet and at some point not long ago, this idiot got all the information, realizing he could do M4 brakes on his E92. Why not? So here it is, with some springs and Koni yellows to go with it. OEM M4 brakes, rotors and pads, plus some other hardware goodies (stuff was ...um ...shot to say the least)

And yes, I highly recommend this upgrade, its been a lot of fun. Eventually I'll upgrade the rears but that's WAY more involved (need knuckles yo!)

What's sad -- the M3/M4 F8x brakes are easy to get, same with the rotors, pads, all plentiful... its the rear e92 M3 knuckles, that are in good shape and not smashed all to hell that I'm having a problem finding. But ...soon.

ever check car-part.com? You can usually find anything for reasonable prices too, and a lot of places will ship.

Is there a write of the exact parts/ part numbers for this upgrade? Also, these are direct bolt on for the factory knuckles?

I have, like 1000 times with different "what would they call it?" games. It is where I found the calipers though. They're not nearly as cheap as they once were, but ...its still cheaper than the stoptech's, and I kinda enjoyed putting it together.

The parts list on Seems Legit was 100% accurate. I didn't want to screw around with spacers and BS so their brackets made it simple (even came with the safety screw) -- and install was pretty easy. The catch for me is everyone hates XIs, so I had to grind down one of the nubs that the dust shield bolts onto. They added a note there because of my shenanigans. Otherwise, nothing complicated. I also went with OEM 380mm rotors, pads. I'm still looking for an M3/4 loom for the pad wear sensor to make it as factory looking as possible - meh, whenever I get to it I get to it.

I wanted -zero- lowering so I went with dinan, plus their supplement kit and also replaced the lower mounts while I was at it. I still got a LITTLE bit of a drop when rear settled, probably 1/4 inch more than that picture. The front was completely settled.

I'm adding a set of M3 guide rod and wishbone right now and I'm not exactly sure what kind of effect that'll have with the -0.7 camber -- it might make it look a bit less lowered ...maybe? but we'll see. I screwed up the install on the passenger side, so I'm waiting on a replacement spindle on friday (crossthreading is bad, m'kay?)

Go rear from 135. Rotor has to be specific for E90 performance brake option. It is hard to find. I just got rear calipers from 135 and Rock Auto is the only place carrying rotors for E90 with those calipers. $49-62 for DFC rotors. Otherwise, OE BMW are $150 per piece.

-REALLY- good and I'm pretty sure there's a lot more there -- but that comes with a bit of a * -- why? I haven't really had a chance to push it, at all, even a little. Not that I'm looking to do so necessarily, but I've probably went 80% once or twice from ~60 since I got it all together. The pads I'm using came with the caliper, so those are slightly used (I compared them to a fresh replacement set I have, and there's not much difference, so I figured what the hell)

That said, I also swapped in an M3 brake booster which was ...mehh, a bit involved but not hard to do. I guess it helps, but I don't have much to compare it to. Maybe my wife's 335xi sedan?

It was Northeast vehicle. Rust on hut.
That is next thing to do. Basically I will have to change knuckle. There is no way that thing is coming out.

I think booster on M3 and regular E90 is same. Master cylinder is different though.

That’s neglect. I have 13y IL 335i and is nothing like that. Last year I worked on WI 10y old 135i and was just as yours is. I torched the nuts and hammered smaller size socket, removed them, saved the axles, changed the bearings and applied grey anti seize paste.

Well, I bought vehicle like that. It had 84k when I picked it up.
You are right, it is neglect that could be prevented. When I was doing rear subframe bushings etc. I bought all new screws, bolts etc. expecting rust. To my surprise just one was rusty, still changed all. But rear brake line was so rusty that I just replaced it as there was no point trying to save it.
So, I will see what I can do. Will try to save axels but if I can't, tbh, I won't lose any sleep. I already changed all suspension pieces for new and upgraded where I could. Engine had every single coolant hose replaced including expansion tank. So, if I can't save axels, I am ok with it. Put new ones and that is it.
