CIC Programming Aborted

Hello,

Today I was using ISTA and saw an error on my CIC. It said CIC: flash memory formatted. I went ahead and proceeded with the steps ISTA D recommended and I think it tried to flash my CIC. After that it gave me an error (I presume because I do not have ISTA P and only a K+DCAN Cable) and the CIC remained black and would not turn back on. From CIC ECU Functions I was able to restart it and it booted back up again, everything works except the language (for the items in the menu) that has only random numbers instead of letters. The radio name that is playing is correct though.

I tried to change the coding with NCS Expert but it cannot read or write to CIC. Is there anything I can do with my K+DCAN cable? Or does it need to be reprogrammed and I have to take it to someone with an ICOM?

Errors are COAPI:2041 when trying to write to the ECU with SG_Codieren.

I really appreciate all help.

A small update, I changed the language to the second option I had (English UK) and now all seems normal. What still does not work is the navigation and the error messages, they only show the yellow triangle for example but no text.

I was not able to do anything else, no matter how much I tried with NCS Expert so I presume I will need to take it for a reprogramming. I hope I can take it to BMW for an Update and they can just flash it with the rest of the modules.

You can't flash CIC with kdcan, you need icom

What he says.

You must use an icom (the a2 version) not the icom next.

Only an icom can flash the cic.

Hey guys,

Thanks for the replies. I took the car to BMW and I was charged 200$ for them trying to update the car (and reprogram CIC) but they were not able to do the CIC part. This would not be an issue if at least it would still be the same as it was before (missing text and navigation) but now it's bricked. I tried the same reset trigger in ISTA but it does not get it out of bootloader. I had to pull a fuse in order to stop the fan. What do you guys think are my options?

1. Find a guy to reprogram my CIC either via ICOM or on a bench, if it's till doable (will I loose FSC codes, will I get maps back, will AUX work?)
2. Buy a replacement head unit, just as mine. Does this need to be coded with ICOM? Or can I do this via KDCAN?

Thanks!

1 would be your best choice, if you were in the UK i could do that for you. you wont loose the FSC codes with a flash.

2 you dont need an icom to code, just to flash. (yes a k-dcan lead)

I sent the HU to a shop in Bucharest, hope they manage to fix it and all works after. This was a real lesson for me about how complex BMW systems are and how easy it is to break them.

Got the HU back, it works now, sadly because of the reformat I lost the FSC code for the navigation, now it's greyed out

L.E. also it looks like the issue I started this thread with is still there, car is invisible when PDC active and warning/error messages have only the triangle.. now the only thing that is changed is the fact that I have C16A instead of C1A as the MCIC version and that I can now code the car with NCS Expert. I also did an empty .man file coding to reset the CIC to factory defaults but it did not help.

Flashing should not have removed the fsc that should still work.

And it should be the latest version too. S
He has downgraded it too. Not sure why.

I would presume the FSC code was lost because of BMW completely bricking the device. I was not able to find anything similar to my issue online, so I do not know what else I could do.. I was thinking I could try to get BMW to update it again (if they will do it for free) but I am not sure that will help

Do you think I should stock code any other module, like KOMBI for example? Could some of my earlier coding there affect the CIC and then not show the warning text?

Coding other modules does not affect the FSC codes in the CIC.

I just don't get where the problem originates from. Why do these 2 things (warning messages and PDC car) appear invisible..

I sent the HU back to the guys that fixed it after I chatted with them and they suggested trying an update to the latest version.

It's fixed now!

Warning messages and PDC car photo appear again

For anyone that may ever be in my dumb situation, hope this helps you!
