Nice choice! I had 12.5mm rear, 10mm front. It’s on coilovers and camber plates so your mileage may vary. No rubbing issues with that setup.

Are those 19's on the BSM? What do they weigh? I like those better than the 194's. Where did you order them from Scheidmann?

They're 18" Style 260's and fill the arches very nicely, the reflex sliver finish really makes them pop.

I didn't throw them on a scale but they seemed about the same as the 194's. BMWWheels info says the 260 18x8.5's are 10.5 kilos and 194's are 10.7/10.3 front and rear.

I bought a minty set of 260's hoping the 9.5 rears would fit but even with fenders rolled I'd have to run stretched tires. I ordered 2 more fronts from getbmwparts, they're running a free shipping special which made it cheaper than schmieds. Both are my favorite online parts sources! Tires will be the same all around which should make the handling a bit more neutral and I can rotate tires, not that wear is a significant issue with 5k miles per year.

If you end up going the same route, Style 219's are nearly identical and should be easier to source 4 fronts. Definitely would have been cheaper to buy aftermarket APEX or 18" 193's or something similar.

I didn't realize you were 17's.

I did the fully fiscally irresponsible things and went 18's so I can feel fear every time I hit a pothole with a half inch of sidewall.

225/40 and 255/35.

but it looks sweet on the internet.

Ha! They do look great on the internet. Those are stock 335 sizes, I think. Rear is for sure.

The 194’s are 17s. My style 260s have 255/35/18s waiting to go on.

Approaching the 2 month mark since I ordered by wheels so the Sparkling Graphite car has been getting some attention.

I spend the last couple weeks working on the paint in my spare time. I buffed out and polished the whole car. It's been about 10 years since I've messed with a buffer and there are a lot of new products out there. The car looks great with the exception of some clear coat fading on the top of the rear bumper. All in not too bad for a 13 year old car!

Also added some red overlays to the reverse lights to compliment my Euro amber tails and replaced the rear roundel.

The garage started smelling like gas this week. It took a few days to figure out which car it was coming from. The winner was the 07. Looks like there is an ever so slight leak on the sending unit housing. I bought units for both sides since there are several connections between the 2 unlike previous E36s I've done the job on. I figure at 125k, I may as well just do the fuel pump while I'm in there. It's one of the few items that can really leave you stranded and at $150, seems like a fair price to pay for piece of mind.

Ordered the parts this morning and I guess I know what I'll be doing next weekend!

I've been really happy with the car so far though. After a year and 10,000 miles it's been mostly trouble free sans a battery and a weeping power steering line. Not a bad buy for under $10k.

The Sparkling Graphite car continues to get some love as I continue to wait for my wheels.

Thanks to I sourced a lightly used M3 steering wheel sans trim and buttons. Fine by me as I prefer that each of my E91s have a bit of a different look on the interior. I ended up with the reverse of what MPOWER5266 has on his wagon - M trim on the sport wheel.

Here's the before, it's hard to see in pictures how rough the stock wheel was -

I was finally was able to knock out the fuel pump and level sender units this weekend after some really hot weather and a parts order issue.

I made the mistake of ordering from Pelican Parts. I did not realize they were part of the ECS/Bavauto buy out and consolidation. This time around their warehouse staff sent me an open box fuel pump. The Continental/VDO seal was broken and the box was dirty inside, the pump itself was dusty and missing packing and the replacement seal. The item should not have been sold as new. It took 20+ emails to get the situation resolved. DO NOT BUY FROM ECS OR PELICAN!!



Anyways, onto the repair. The leak itself was coming from the level sender unit on the driver's side. At 125k and 13 years I figured it was worth the effort and $150 to replace the fuel pump as well. It's the only part that has left me stranded in a BMW, ever. My first E36 had the fuel pump die about a mile from my parents' house back in 2003.

I've done a few of these on E36s and from what I remember it was really quick, especially if you're just doing the level sender. The E91 was a bit more tricky with all of the connections.

The leak got a bit worse after a couple weeks -

Out with the old -


New seal -


New pump -


Job done!


All in, it took me about 2 hours. Each fuel fitting seemed to have its own trick to removing. I also had a tough time removing the ring fastener on the passenger side, even with the special tool. Finally was able to get it out using my beam wrench. E36s I've done previously usually came loose with a couple blows of a mallet and screwdriver.

And... still no wheels for the black car.

I've been super busy with work but here are some updates from the past couple months -

Wheels for the unicorn
After a long debacle the black car is back on the Style 194s. I ordered a pair of silver Style 260s back in May or June from getbmwparts and they ultimately weren't able to get them from BMW Deutschland's parts stash. I also attempted to order them through Schmiedmann as they were being clearanced out but they weren't any left to fulfill my order either.

I'm trying to track down a used set and found two on eBay, one in Germany and one in Colorado. They're both $1000+ and of course the seller in Colorado doesn't want to ship and it's $750 to ship the set from Germany.



Tires for the automatic
Back to square one here. The rears were worn out on the Style 161s and I pulled the trigger on some Michelin Pilot Sport AS4 in stock sizing: 225/45/17 & 255/40/17. So far so good after ~500 miles on my first set of All-Season Pilots. I never really push this car but so far they're quiet, comfy, and predictable. They felt fine in slushy roads up to the mountains earlier this month as well.







Maintenance for the automatic
I took care of the annual oil service on the Sparkling Graphite car last weekend with some help, finally! 11 months with 7,500 miles and I added about 1/3 of a quart in October. Unfortunately I noticed a bit of a weep from the Eccentric Shaft Sensor Seal so I'll be replacing that shortly.

I finally have some time off coming up (hopefully!) after working straight through the pandemic. Really happy to be continuously employed especially working for a major casino operator here in Las Vegas but I'm definitely ready for a bit of a break since I had to cancel my regularly scheduled vacations in March, July, and October. With that said, I'm a bit hesitant to spend significant money beyond the basics.

A few odds and ends are on order for the unicorn including 335is pedals and the OEM Performance Shift Rod. I also am putting together a list of longer term regular maintenance items that are due for both cars. Both are due for brake fluid and the automatic is due for a suspension overhaul. My plan is to continue using it as a daily driver. Not sure if that's even the right description since I'm working remotely and my wife runs the house so family hauler might be the better description. With that in mind I'm going to do an OE refresh of the original struts, shocks, and other worn bits.

I have the following on the road map for the unicorn in 2021:
  • Wheels, hopefully Style 260s if they don't cost me $4k all in
  • M3 mirrors
  • Painting and fitting my euro front bumper
  • Euro airbox
  • 3.73 differential
  • 335i brakes, I have the calipers but need to refinish and rebulid
