The thing is we took all 6 out and we weren't 100% sure which were the old 3 injectors and which were the 3 we had already replaced. They were all dirty at the bottom and had carbon buildup... Is this normal for the new ones to look like this?. We checked the year that they were manufactured and we replaced 2 old ones for sure. We were not sure about the third one but I think we got it right.

So I started the car the next day at noon and the idle looked like this. I felt a rough idle only for like a second.

While I was driving I got a check engine light but I think it is for the cat again as a cylinder did not shutdown like it would in case of a misfire. I will check the code on Monday with my indy. Any tips if it is indeed a cat error? Also does the idle look fine to you now? I think it might be fixed but I don't want to jinx it

Thank you in advance!
Hey,
the idle looks okay, if you don't feel any vibrations in the cabine then it is all good. Did your indy programmed the flowrates of injectors after the swap?
My test to check if everything is okay is to let the car stay for 24h then to iginite it up and wait about 1.5-2 minutes on idle, if it has rough run then there is still a problem somewhere, if not it is all good .

Heya,
Yeah, we coded them in and I haven't felt a rough idle the past 2 days. Maybe only once for like a second and it was hardly noticable so I think it's ok now. It used to be brutal before the replacements.
Anyways the check engine light is still on and I will check the code tomorrow. I'm 99% sure it's the cat again.
By the way, how much should the fuel consumption be? It is a sedan with Xdrive. I reset it on Friday and it is currently at 8.5 l/100 km. I try to drive smoothly and do no sudden accelerations. It does seem to go up by 0.1 point every day when I start the car though. Do I have to reset it every day to keep track of the consumption?
Thank you in advance!

Also worth clearing all adaptations if you haven't already done so...

Hey guys,

So today I checked that my coolant level was low. I filled it up with 1L of tap water when cold in the morning.

The car start up even better than before but when I drove 1km and stopped I saw there was a little smoke coming from the exhaust. It used to be more in the past and I couldnt tell if it was burning coolant, bad injectors before replacement, burning oil or if it was simply normal on cold starts. I will track the levels the next few days.

The thing is today while I was driving and stopped at lights or on park to wait for someone, I felt very slight vibrations. Nothing like the rough idle in the past but I could feel it every few seconds. My rpm needle sits at 500 like you saw in the video but the other day when my indy hooked it up we saw it was actually at 650, not 500.

Should I worry about these slight vibrations and sooty exhaust and could it have something to do with the coolant? Yesterday we checked the injector spray rates and all 6 didn't go above 0.57 spray flow.

I would love to hear your thoughts.

PS: All adaptations were reset, including the one for the nox and o2 sensor yesterday when we deleted the cat error.

Thank you in advance!

If you've cleared all the adaptions it takes time for the ECU to re learn them. Even some fault codes relating to misfires are normal during the first 500 miles or so of the re learning process and should be cleared when they appear as it can hinder the re learn.
Steam iut the exhaust is perfectly normal, especially on cold starts and even in the colder months when the engine is warm. It is more likely that there is a leak than anything else as there are no known head gasket issues with these engines.

Hey,

Thank you for the reply. I had no idea it could take as long as 500 miles for the adaptations.
I shall keep on driving then.

This is where my coolant is at right now. I think it was the same level as yesterday but I will keep on monitoring the next few days as well. My dipstick is sadly broken for some reason lol.

Also something I noticed today as it is a rainy day is this coming from the exhaust:

https://youtube.com/shorts/FFFzfaz5mKg?feature=share

I think it always happens in rainy or cold days or when it rained the night before and it seems to put out more when I am in reverse. I drove the car for a bit so it is not from a cold start. This seems like steam though if I am not mistaken? It can't be burning oil or coolant, right?

Thank you in advance!

Your red coolant level plastic piece is broken. There is a chance that you haven't lost any coolant and it is now over filled. It should have a red ball on the top.

The steam is perfectly normal as I said. It is just condensation forming in the exhaust.

Today I checked and the level is still the same, which is a load off my mind. Also thank you for confirming it is just condensation... I have truly become paranoid af becauae of this car 😀.
I think I will have my indy replace my coolant as I have no idea how old this one is.
I plan to replace my CCC with Android in a few weeks and also do a software update for the engine. I saw that BMW doctor recommends it, but the guys here warned me that there is a chance a block might burn

Has anyone done this update?

Yes I did the software update on my driveway. I had an error come up after which is very common but it is easily sorted. I can't rememeber what the error was.

I would reccomend that you get it done.

Well I dove 1000km since the injectors were replaced and I have not had a misfire since. The check engine light for the cat disappeared by its self and I only feel slight vibrations when in park or stop, which I guess is due to the high mileage of the car. It is not like the rough idle in the past. When I turn the AC on it is better so my questions is can I constantly keep it on or should I turn it off before I turn off my car? I also got 26 mpg for a 4h drive and it is like 25 mpg when I drive around in the city. Is this normal or more than usual and what might be the cause of it given that I already replaced all of the injectors, coils and spark plugs.

Thank you in advance!

I run the A/C permanently on mine and there is nothing wrong with doing that. In the past I have switched it off during winter but these systems are best when they are used more frequently.

The engine idle RPM increases slightly with the use of the a/c and the engine has a little more load on it. Both of which make for a smoother idle. Mine is exactly the same.

Agree with leaving AC on all the time.. oddly I find my idle ever so slightly smoother with AC off though. Can't tell the engine is running, whereas with it on it feels like it's slightly under load , which it is..

Thank you for the swift response!
I'll keep it on as well then as my rpm needle sita on 600 with AC on. When it's off it is at 500 and I feel slight vibrations at idle. Might need a software update for that - not sure.

Mine is exactly the same. You FEEL it being on or off from the cars vibrations and mine is smoother running when AC is engaged.

BTW has anyone else some slight noise when AC is running? I can turn up the fan speed and it is not that noise (had a problem with fan on my E91) but something seems to be a bit off. AC pulley bearings maybe? My mechanic checked AC while he was replacing the belt and he said that it was quiet and turning easily but he couldn't rule out that it might make noise when being used and he suggested cheking/replacing the bearings.

If it sounds like a groaning you can hear inside the cabin it may need topping up.

Hey guys,

So I am planning on changing my oil when I reach the 8k KM mark and I was wondering what oil brand should I choose... I currently have BMW 5W30 TwinTurbo. The one I was considering is Bardahl 5W40. I would love to hear your thoughts and which brands as well as viscosity you guys prefer.

Choose a good quality, fully synthetic that meets BMW spec LL-01 and you won't go far wrong...
