2E8E: Intelligent Battery Sensor

Hey guys, I have this code stored in my DME. I reset it and check a day later and there the code is again. My car is nearly 6 years old still ont he original battery. Can this be caused by a battery going out? Should I replace the sensor? Or should I just ignore it.

I searched for a bit but couldn't find any extraordinarily useful results.

Thanks!

Simon

It's probably a bad IBS, not the battery.

I had this code when the IBS cable got disconnected by vibrations. There is a thread with full explanation and pictures, just use the search button.

Thanks guys, like I said I searched and did see that thread and confirmed its not disconnected. Bentley recommends changing the ground cable, which is quite expensive, when replacing the IBS. Can anyone comment on that?

Thanks!

IIRC, the IBS is contained within the negative battery cable. But between the IBS, JBE and a 6 year old battery, I'd have it checked it out by a tech who really knows BMW electrics.

I have 2006 330I. My ibs sensor just failed on me. Fyi, for my year they redesigned the sensor. The original sensor was 2 pieces. The replacement is 3 pieces. You can get it on autohausaz.com for cheaper than the dealer but remember to get all 3 or it won't work.

Thanks for that! Did you get the same code when yours failed? The parts guys at the stealership were telling me they have a part for the negative battery cable (the cable and IBS come in one) and an IBS adapter, and he wasn't sure what the adapter was. Is this the third part? Do you know any part numbers?

Thanks!
