Cracked 313 wheel

Tire shop found a 1 inch crack in my rear 313 19" wheel on my 2011 335is. It was on the inside rim...

The options were to ship the wheel out and have it fixed (which they did not recommend due to potential further cracking) or get another new wheel for 660$.

I ended up paying for a new wheel, but is this a common problem in these 313s? Would be dangerous to ride with a 1" crack on the wheel?

Most BMW wheels, not just style 313. I personally would weld it as chances of cracking again are pretty much equal to cracking the new rim. You hit a potholes, you crack it. Always on the inside. Yes, you can drive on it but will get worse and leak air. I have seen guys fix them with jbweld

I don't know about other OEM wheels but with the 19" 313M wheels that I also have on my 335is, it's very common especially in the rear. Were you on runflats? My understanding is they make the issue many times worse.

Sounds like the wheel will not be structurally safe if repaired. $660 for a new OEM 313 wheel? That's really close to a brand new set from us shipped. OP, have you checked the Members Classified section. You may be able to find a member selling a single 313 wheel for less.

This is the price we pay for running low profile tires. 3 out of 4 of my rims were cracked last time i took the car in. Luckily it was covered under warranty. I have since then switched to non RFT's with a slightly bigger profile tire.
