320d is hesitation(POSSIBLY SORTED)
Hi all,
Wife complained a few weeks ago car was struggling so I checked it out and right enough it was hesitant on light throttle, turns out she had been using Morrisons for diesel so I started using bp and esso and it seemed to be better but a couple of days ago I stick £30 of diesel in it at tesco and low and behold today it started the hesitation again 😡 I googled it and these guys have described what I'm experiencing down to a T so will let them do the talking 😄 Saying that I'm not getting the Rev counter bouncing though 👍 any you guys had this? Do you really think it could be the fuel 😳 Last edited by Jimmy-F46 M-sport; 04-19-2015 at 09:00 AM.. |

We see a fair few cars through our doors with issues that you can put down to the fuel used(though this is more petrol than diesel)but sure we've seen some issues around here that seem to point towards the fuel used. Its not new news though these issues have been going on for years. Its a tricky subject though as many report no issues whatsoever with supermarket fuel some report nightmares. Around here we see a fair few nightmare's so is it down to the venders tank's the refinery
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-dorset-29306434 http://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/mo...ghts-thousands The Mercedes franchise in the above report will be our local and as stated above we've done a fair few fuel related "fix's"due to "suspected fuel issues". Remember also on diesel due to the refining process there will be more microbacterial and water contamination present than you'd expect. We've repalced fuel filters on cars in the past and drained the fuel tanks where necessary. Also worth bearing in mind is the state of today's diesel http://www.ipu.co.uk/fuel-conditioni...FUYOwwodRlwAqw |

This happens to mine, on minimal throttle at 1500rpm it feels like it is spluttering very slightly, my old E46 320d was worse, at the same rpm and conditions it would jerk and stutter like mad

My 2006 X3 150BHP diesel used to do exactly what you guys are describing. I did a lot of research at the time to try and find out what it was, i found a few threads on various BMW forums of people with the same problem, but unfortunately nobody seemed to know what it was and the threads died out. Tried different fuels but couldn't seem to get rid of it, but i think it was worse when using Tesco's fuel.
Seem to remember someone saying it could be something to do with the flywheel, but can't remember what though. |

Cheers for the response guys 👍 james-B mines is the same exactly at 1500rpm and a few people seem to think it's egr valve related something to do with a control valve changing settings over at 1500rpm 😏 saying that today it's hardly done it 😄 bloody cars 😂😂😂

I did clean the EGR on my E46 320d along with the inlet manifold when removing the swirl flaps and this did cure it for a while, stupidly didn't blank th EGR off at the time so can't confirm whether it remanifested as a result of dirty EGR/manifold again or not

Cleaned out the egr valve as soon as I got it and had my local indie remove the swirl flaps but I've read a few people saying that you should replace the vacume hoses too! Will have a look at them at see there condition 👍

Noticed mine did it a few months back then not noticed it for a while but more recently it has returned. Usually fuel up at tescos (because of the money off i get with clubcard points) when its all gone i may try fuelling up at Shell with Vpower to test to see if it is fuel related

Hopefully got this sorted, was reading on babybmw about someone saying there 130i was suffering from laggy throttle response and someone suggested a throttle body adaption reset as it seemingly has great results so I thought Im gonna give that a go, canny hurt! I'm just back in after an hourlong drive and the car didn't judder once on part throttle 👍 will keep you all updated if it returns but from fingers crossed it doesn't 😄
Here's the process for anyone interested in doing it |

sounds promising be good if it isnt fuel related. the closest shell to me is 9miles away and in the completely oppostie direction for any related trips. and tesco keep giving me money off so its hard not to use them

Well it's done something because it's still not doing it and it was doing it quite badly just before I did the whole throttle thing, so god knows what it's done but it's helped 👍

That's not technically a throttle body but an Anti Shudder Valve. I've just had to replace one on my sisters 2.0TDi Octavia. Car ran ok with it faulty but threw an engine management light and when you turned off the car it would shudder like you've stalled it. On some cars these do need re-initialising when removed or replaced.
