Help, need a window tinting recommendation
I have been looking at the pics, and I plan to get my 330i TiAg tinted tomorrow. I dont want it too dark for safety reasons, and I am concerned about the look of light fronts and dark rears. Does the difference look like crap? Do you recommend a combo 35%/15% or 35% all around?

The main issue about safety are the front, driver side windows. You want other people to see your face so they can more easily predict your moves. And for you to be able to make "eye" contact. You'd be surprised how much driving you do making eye contact with other drivers.
20's are actually fine to see through. . . depending on your night vision. But from the outside in, you can't see in. I have 50s on the driver front side, so that it blocks the UV some sun, but the other drivers can still see my eyes. The last thing I want is to get in a stupid accident because of stupid tinted windows. That'd be totally lame. |

I have 35% all around and I think it looks nice and classy. I was debating between 35 and 25, and ended up going with the 35 since thats my state's limit.

On the topic of different levels of tint, I would agree that if its noticible that they are different, it looks like crap.

Tinting shop recommendation in West Houston?
I just bought an alpine 330i. I'm looking for a good tint shop recommendation, preferably on the west side of Houston. Momentum said they have someone that comes to their shop and does it. Should I trust their recommendation? Does anyone else have a recommendation?
I haven't had a car tinted since my 1987 grand national was new, but I think it was something like 50% on front sides and 35 or so percent on the back. I need to be legal in Texas and can't remember if that was 50 or 35 in front. I think you can put anything in back, so I might go 20 in the back and back sides. I've read through this thread and a bunch of others on here and it looks like metallic can mess with the comfort access. I guess that means I need to ask for ceramic? Thanks in advance for any help. Talk top your salesman and see who they outsource the job to and then work on getting the dealer deal and you just pay for it. That's what I did and I saved about $75. Haven't heard anyone complaining about tint messing up the CA but no one has mentioned getting the mettalic film either. When I lived in San Antonio I had my Maxima tinted and the shop tinted all the windows at 20% but I had the sticker saying that it was 35% which is legal in Texas. That was back in 1999 so may have changed but there are always a way. Texas cops are pretty quick to hand you a ticket. I never had any problems while I was there. Don't go by cost and go by quality of service. You could call the other Lexus or Merc dealers and see where they take it to.

does tinting interfere with i-drive gps signal?
hi all, i'm waiting for my e90 to arrive and was wondering if anyone knew whether tinting the windows would block the gps signal for the nav system?
plus, does anyone know where the gps signal is received, ie. through the bmw assist or the radio antenna? thanks. |

thomy the navigation gets the GPS signal from the roof antenna so tinting your windows will not affect it. However, cars (like mine) that don't have the roof antenna use the rear window heater as an antenna. Using tint that has metal in it may affect the radios reception...

Well I got the Johnson 35% Silhouette Tint.
So far I am very happy with it. No interference with radio or CA. Very nice dark shade. 35% is plenty dark enough for me. It's darker than I though. I also had black lines put on last week.

I am going to get my e92 335i coupe delivered in few weeks. I asked local (austin, tx) dealership and they recommend Formula 1/Pinnacle ceramic window tint but asking $399 installed. Anyone knows about this tint and which sade will look good on TiAg 335i coupe?
