New owner 2011 325i manual - few issues
Hi All,
This is my first ever BMW so please be gentle I acquired a late 2011 E90 325i 6speed manual., done 84k miles. The car has a few strange issues I've never experienced with another car. 1. When in gear ( apart from 1st ) and below 900 rpm when I accelerate the car stutters at around 1100 rpm for 2,3 seconds , then all is good and it continues as normal. This happens in 2nd , 3rd , 4th, I haven't tried it in 5th or 6th. 2. When coasting in gear , there is a mechanical whine ( grind metal on metal ) coming from the engine compartment. Could it be a flywheel or a clutch issue ? It is pretty consistent in all gears. If I put the clutch down , the noise goes away. 3. When in 4th and accelerating a strong vibration is coming though the gear stick. Doesn't happen in any other gear. 4. When idling the engine sounds like a diesel, I read on the forum that it's normal, but not too sure about that. 5. What is the best way to get the code to update the satnav ? 6. There is quite a bit of carbon build up in the exhaust pipes, should I worry about it ? 7. I attached the Bcables cable to the odb port and got these two errors, I cleared them but not sure if they are important or not. 8. My car seems to have BMW Online , but the internet browser does not connect, if my phone is connected via Blutooth it seems to get internet from it, but not sure how it works. Thanks |

Welcome to the forum Nik. On the assumption you have the N53 engine, then at your mileage I would suspect the injectors are shot. The N53 runs very lean and you should not have carbon build-up in your exhaust pipes. This would also explain your hesitation issues, though plugs and/or coils could also be the culprit.
A diesel-like noise at idle is normal and caused by the piezo injectors. Sadly DMF issues are not uncommon, so a clutch/DMF replacement may be in order. I hope you bought a warranty!

Thanks Phil, no warranty I am afraid, can I still get one from bmw ? the car is not 6 years old yet. Update - It turns out I can get warranty for £550
I will clean the exhaust pipes and watch the build up. I will book it in with BMW in Bromley for a check , we will see what they say. can you recommend a garage in south London ? Nick Last edited by nikolarun; 05-30-2017 at 06:45 AM.. |

Sorry not my area. But I'm sure someone will be along to recommend a good indy. Deffo a better idea than dealer (stealer) prices!

I thought the soot build up on tails pipes was related to the NOX catalyst and regeneration - I could well be wrong on this but that was my understanding.
In its self I didn't think it was an injector issue. The faults code listed are for NOX and NOX catalyst. |

Also if you plan on keeping the car now is the time you should think about Gearbox and Diff fluid change, as they are a lifetime fill and have no service interval
If you post a video of the noise then we can see if its normal. 2nd gear low rpm coast generally has a background wine.. |

Don't forget you can't claim on the warranty for the first month.

So I checked the codes last night after doing 300 miles in mixed conditions since Sunday, and they had not returned. clean as a whistle.
Can anyone point me to some decent INPA documentation, I have no clue what most of the stuff means |

I will keep that in mind.
Do you know if they charge you multiple excess amounts if you get a few different issues at the same time ? Almost like separate claims or does the BMW garage just do it as 1 big claim ? |
