Flickering led halo

Around four years ago I fitted a pair of led halo bulbs & all has been fine until Yesterday when I noticed in a reflection from a shop window that the driver side halo had started flickering/going off & on.
This morning I have taken them out & swapped them over & issue has now moved to passanger side, but light will only flicker/go off when bulb is in the headlight. When it's out it works fine, even if I wiggle the wires/connectors the light stays on,
Can anyone shed some 'light' on this issue? Thanks.

Despite changing the connectors I couldn't stop the light flickering when it was fitted. So as the weather was so nice today I took a drive up to mstyle in Romford & bought a new set of H8 led markers.
1 hour 40 mins there & back, missed all the traffic at Dartford crossing & the M25 & managed 34mpg
These were much easier to get into the bulb holders than the old ones, hardest part was getting the old LEDs out.
These seem a bit brighter as they have four LEDs as opposed to two, only issues are I couldn't quite get the led bulbs to align 100% with the holes that light up the outer rings & as the old ones they don't turn off when the headlight switch is set to off, not really a a big issue.
I now no longer have side light left & right failure warning every time I start the car, which is nice.

Having just fitted these I have now read the installation guide & there's a caution note which says, pease put two control units outside headlight housing to avoid high temperature damage control units.
Does anyone know what the control units are? I take it they are referring to the ballasts, if so if anyone has fitted these whereabouts outside of the headlight unit have you put them?
