zf transmission rebuild near london

hi guys, so my transmission has signs of wear and tear for longer time already, it's slipping in the first gear and some jolts and clunks and i suspect that the low performance is also attributed to the faulty transmission.
the question is whom do u recommend and how much i can expect to be charged? is it worth it or should i be looking for a second hand transmission instead?
thanks,

Garage List
I'm assuming this is an auto box? Have you tried having the transmission fluid and filter changed?

Look no further than a FATE approved repair.

My brother in law had his ZF rebuilt in Ilford. Very knowledgeable, professional and no nonsense experience. They were straight with cost and accurate with the diagnosis.

You need to have it diagnosed first. Sometimes this is straight forward based on the symptoms and fault codes. Other times a bit of tearing away is required. The valve body is usually the main culprit. However, poor or lack of maintenance such as a leaking seal may also be an issue. Look for a FATE approved garage.

well, i was quoted about 2700 pounds from fate approved mechanic, and in that case, i will rather drive my car as it is tbh until it dies, no way i am paying that.

hi yes about 2.5 years ago, but it seems it made the thing worse and it slowly degraded. it might be because the oil was not zf or even that adaptations were not reset, i don't know.
however, there might be host of other problems as well. anyway, this is the worst repair because only the mechanic can see what's wrong and i bet once he take it out, he will quote u maximum he can, albeit be it good and in a need of a new oil or so....as i said, i will drive it slowly till it dies and then i will buy a second hand transmission....

It's a little extreme but have you considered a visit to ZF in Germany?

My philosophy is that if the repair outweighs the cost of the car or half the car then it migh not be worth it. Personally 2700 for a rebuild is good because these things range from 1000-9000.

You get a 12 month warranty. The gearbox will likely see you thousands of trouble free miles.

If you drive it until it dies you could be out of pocket putting things right that you could have prevented from becoming worse. I am assuming you don't care as you are well off so it doesn't bother you... so you'll replace the car when it dies.

Germany is an option. It's a nice drive. You'd be looking at slightly less for the repair but the costs would add up on hotels, fuel, food and, may be the ferry if you don't drive all the way.

My valve body went. I had extended warranty. The job was 6500 with 4500 goodwill but I chose to part exchange the car.

I think I'd be fitting a used box, but I don't have warranty or money for a new box or to repair it probably.... just what I'd do.
Although I'm not sure why would need doing coding wise if anything?

Something like that but cheaper are out there, one is 100 more but 38k miles!
Normally get a warranty on these parts of 30 days or so which is enough to get it fitted and tested....

Im sure I've seen Automatic Gearbox Specialists on Ebay that will charge £1100 for fitting a refurb box. Not too bad considering gearbox is probably £500 2nd hand.

Reconditioned gearbox...says it for 5 series but assume it should fit 3 series.

I have lost my old messages sorry. Have a search on the site.

I can't see an Ilford one on there anymore may be they withdrew from the scheme so best to contact FATE.
