For examply "under the surface" my 2011 335i xDrive sedan shares the SAME IDENTICAL 6HP19/6HP21 transmission as a 2008 - 2011 535i xDrive sedan! So the only modifications would be finding a way to get a DCT shifter extracted from a 6HP19/6HP21 in a 2008 - 2010 535i xDrive sedan and placed into my car. Only wiring and coding would be an issue. Sounds good BUT when I search thru eBay for the DCT shifter assembly part from a 2008 to 2011 535i xDrive sedan those shifter assembly are radically different than the E90 shifter assembly. The DCT shifter comes out of a enclosed electrical box.

What's up guys. A little update.
As of now after many months of practicing my cuts on a 3/8" thick pvc pipe I've perfected the cut that allows the DCT LED Shifter to not only sit low as possible (while keeping the mod somewhat reversible) but also lock into place on the BMW's Steptronic Shifter assembly. The key is finding the exact angle to line up your cut with the angle of the sloped roof inside the DCT neck hole. As well as cutting two slits in your stalk to allow the fins inside the DCT neck hole to lock in place like Lego pieces. See video below and pictures for more info:

Mechatronics is still a lot of work to swap, but nowhere near as bad or expensive as doing a whole DCT swap. You'd just have to run an extra LIN-bus wire from the shifter assembly to the transmission (otherwise everything occurs over the already existing CAN-bus wiring) |

Also note, the E60 "Sports Auto" shifter also cosmetically looks much more like the E90 shifter. The "Sports Auto" transmission is the same as the standard one - just different software. |

These pictures are the best ones yet that show the scope of work and full aesthetic potential of this MotiveMods kit!
When you first get the kit and attempt to install it before cutting stalk: Preparing to cut stalk: Once stalk is cut: Results look awesome:

To close out my account with this awesome thread and say a final thank you to Motive Mods for not just creating a brilliant kit but for inspiring me to complete this journey that I started back in 2008 on my old 2001 330i.
So with a new baby in our family, two day care tuition bills, as well a new house purchase on the horizon, I am left with limited time and limited funds for completing my Motive Mod installation. Last week I had to pass my kit on to a great guy in Poland who will install it on his E90. In the meantime I installed the F30 Retrofit kit on my car and it is not all that bad. In fact I only got this F30 kit out of curiosity and to answer the many questions I get on it at the forums here and on my YouTube Channel. To answer these questions and to become an expert on the disparities between the brilliant Motive Mod kit and the cheaply made and priced Taiwanese kits I had to buy one and install it. I did: In the end the Motive Mod kit is a remarkable achievement for a functioning electrical OEM cosmetic retrofit procured outside the walls of a BMW factory. It is a quality kit with the only caveat being not being reversible once in stalled. In fact the only short coming of the Motive Mod kit is the main positive aspect of the F30 kit. The F30 kit takes minutes to completely reverse back to the stock shifter if you change your mind, if it breaks or if you need to sell your car or take it back to BMW. In the end my final comment is if you have the money, time and dedication like I had then definitely get the Motive Mod kit above all other kits!

I can't see any posts of anyone trying to fit one of these newer illuminated versions of the original style shifter, so does anyone happen to know of it would physically fit? It looks equally as tall as my original shifter so would no doubt require the stalk to be cut down a bit, but the illuminated lights wwould be correctly layer out and it retains the original trigger lock.... |
