Okay, you got me. What is it about the Pre-LCI that you like better than the LCI model? As far as I can tell, everything is better on the LCI cars. I've had both btw.

I just put my 2011 e91 xdrive AT wagon up for sale. I'm the second owner and it's always been garaged when not being driven. 63k miles and very clean! $15k OBO.

I prefer LCI in general (and have one), but I want a red pre-LCI to do an M3 front clip conversion. I like the contrast of Blacklines on that color and the halogen blinkers in front and rear.

Yours looks really good though, I'd rock M Sport aero on an LCI all day long!

I've posted it occasionally but here's mine -

Thanks! I think that's a fair price. The interior is black.

I'm in the boat of build your own unicorn in this case. As fun as the hunt is, at some point it's more fun building and driving. Not to deter from the collector aspect since I'm an avid collector of other stuff so I totally get it.

This. I'm in between trying to find a unicorn some days, and others wanting to find a clean base to build and drive. I would love to have OEM stock M-Sport,
but I would love to just build something as well as it will be my daily driver. Makes it hard haha!

As great as factory M sports are, they don't have any performance difference so I don't feel like you're losing out. Just decide which options are most important to you, find the right base and build from there. Transmission and color combo are the most hassle to change so find that imo. Shadow line trim is also a pain in the ass to swap if you want OEM. I had to wait 2 months for the factory parts to come in from Germany. I think that's only on sport and m sport models. Aside from that, everything else is relatively easy.

With that said, I chose to buy a factory M sport F31 because I didn't want to deal with the hassle of down time and headache of getting things to fit OEM. After dealing with 2 major E91 builds, I got tired of building. Just find the right balance of search and effort to build. That's my advice.

Do you feel there is a big + to F31 over E91? Or not comparable?

True about color combo. I seem to find many that are the colors I want; however, not sport, so the standard seats and no shadowline!

I like both for different reasons.

The F31 grew on me cosmetically with just the M sport alone. I had to get my HUD again after driving my wife's X5 which reminded me how much I liked HUD when I had it over 10 years ago on my E60. The tech and slightly larger size are the biggest draws for me. I tinker with the idea of converting this one to an M3 too, but nowadays I think of all the other things I could do instead with that money. Jury's still out on the xdrive though.

The E91 feels dated after sitting in my F31. It's still a great car with the manual transmission but dated. Back in 2012 when I bought my first E91, I bought it with the intention of completely changing it, hence the M3 conversion. I think nobody liked E91's then. At that time the 3SIM and tune was not available so that was all you got from the engine. Today, I like it for its simplicity. Less tech to fail, less things to break, and ideally less hassle. Ironically, my E91 is none of those things with the N54, air suspension, custom LM's, E90 M3 front seats, and Navi.

Build if you have time, buy if you don’t. Came down to that for me. Still have my eyes out for that red conversion candidate...

The exterior conversion is super easy. Get the bumpers painted and you’re in business in an afternoon even if you’re not mechanically inclined.

As redeye was saying, buy a car that has the transmission and color combo you want. The rest is easy to update to M Sport and beyond.

I managed to luck out with mine. It just happened to pop up locally as I was searching for a new car after the VW Diesel Scandal. Scored a '11 328i MSport, RWD, Manual. With all the right options ticked for me. Just wished the color combo was slightly better: Space Grey over Black, would prefer a different colored interior. But as mentioned could always be swapped.
