Thanks for providing this! I had an invisicord and Escort detector from my previous car and your instructions worked perfectly for installing it in my 2011 335i.

Hey guys. I'm new here and I was trying to use this DIY to hard wire a dash cam but unfortunately I don't have an auto dimming mirror so there wasn't even a wire harness to use. I also tried the Valintine V1 DIY to no avail. The green with white strip wire has no switched 12v source on it in my 2011 E90.

Tried doing this just now and it didn't work. Now my mirror doesn't tell me which direction I'm facing, nor do the garage buttons work.

Op, SO the RD powers up when you turn on car, but can you power it off with the power button on the RD if you want, while car is running?

I think green/white is positive and brown is ground.

I'm not too familiar with hardwiring, or radar dectectors in general. I want to do this, but I'm worried that Invisicord doesn't have the correct cable for the Escort Passport Max. The standard cord looks like it may work, but my concern is the plug going into the detector may be the incorrect size.
Am I overthinking this, & all detectors have the same size ethernet plug-in? |

I must have shorted the positive wire to ground by accident. Does anyone know which fuse this is? I checked what I thought was the homelink fuse (#28) but its fine. I checked all the fuses behind the glove box and they all seem OK. I gotta be missing it somehow. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. |

Thanks for the DIY as I used this method and everything worked well... But, after having this running for the last week or so I went to open my sunroof for the first time and as soon as I presssed the button the radar detector start turning off and on the entire time while opening. When it was fully open and the sunroof motor stopped, so did the radar detector. It didn't seem to have anymore power. I closed the sunroof and poof! the detector worked again... Any ideas on why it will not work when I open the sunroof? I tapped power from the mirror 12v source like referenced on the first page and I used a ground under the dome lighting. It was a hex head bolt if memory serves me correctly. Any ideas on what to do? I appreciate any help, thanks guys... The only thing I could think was to try a different ground possibly but I figured I would ask here first before tearing it all apart.

Forgot to update... I ended up taking the dome light back down and switched my ground to the 10mm bolt vs. the torx screw as after not getting any responses hear notice some chatter on other threads that others had issues with using the torx screw as their ground. Sure enough, as soon as I switched the ground it works perfect everytime now.

Without reading the entire instructions, I accidentally purchased the 8 inch cord with a fuse. (I recommend the 12 inch cord with fuse). 8 inches was just barely enough to go from the mirror tap to the radar detector.
The hardest part for me was getting the inviscord into a good position inside the mirror. Every time I tried to put back together the plastic housing, I would accidentally move one of the wires out of position. I ended up spending a lot of money on the blendmount and I'm not mad about it. Make sure you google for a coupon before you buy the blend mount. I was able to get 20% off. Overall this install took me 1 hour as a complete newbie. The instructions were very clear. Taking apart the plastic housing and finding the correct cables was easy. |

Thanks for the write up. It is a good DIY guide.
I made an attempt after following a different thread for an installation on another BMW model and decided to be slick and purchase a cable with micro pins that were too small from Ebay. Major fail. After researching further I was fortunate to find this sticky. In comes the Invisicord and excited since I would soon have my radar detector installed cleanly. I plugged in the pins into the respective cables on the harness and voila, the radar came alive! My problem is that as soon as I move the harness back into position to close everything up, the pins move and I lose power. I have tried every location possible for a snug fit and each time I get the same result. I am a pretty patient person but I have put in almost 2 hours and I am near my wits end. I have tried to the left and right of each cable. Pins slide it but its not snug. There doesn't seem to be any room to slide under the cable. It seems to me in from the top is the most snug but I still lose power when inserted in that location. Can anyone provide direction? I am obviously doing something that is going against my effort here... |

Confirmed working on Passport Max. Install was quite painless using the guide from OP.
