Carfax says ‘potential odometer rollback’
Loooking at a ‘06 m/t 330 for my son. Clean car, well maintained, but the carfax says ‘potential odometer rollback’. What are the possible explanations for this? He’s really excited about finding this car, and wants to test drive it today. It’s 3 hours away.

You would have to look at this case by case. Usaully its just someone entering the wrong milage at a service. You can see in the car fax.. But if there is consist report of milage rollback (several reports of lower mileage than previous milage) then car would be a big red flag.

Look for the dot between the odometer and trip odometer. That is another indicator of odometer tampering. Both of my teenagers have 06s. They are great starter cars for responsible kids.

Yep. It has the dot. Looking at the mileage on carfax, it goes from 159,000 to 71,000 and continues to climb up from that point at each of the following service intervals. It’s now at 139,000.

It could have a junkyard odometer. Mine went out and got a junkyard odometer so I wouldn't have to code it. But I got the dot. It should automatically revert to the higher mileage but sometimes it goes to lower one when I scan it and play with the codes. The only way I found out how to revert back to the higher mileage count is to unplug the battery for 5 seconds. It works every time. I don't like to pretend that my car has lower mileage.

If you can get INPA hooked up you can see what milage (well km) each module thinks it's at. If the majority are at one specific milage and there are one or two off, you're probably fine. If it's all over the place, buyer beware.

+1 for this. Absolutely worth knowing where the mileage readings on the other modules are at.
