VRSF 5" stepped ic vs new 5" HD stepped IC. Any logs?

Has anyone ordered the new hd core VRSF 5" intercooler? I'm interested in how it preforms versus, say the 7" street intercooler from VRSF. They're the same price. If the 5" hd cools as well as a larger non-hd core it should be a no-brainer for stock turbos, right? I live at 5000' above sea level, so I'm concerned about pressure drop. Interested in tiago and Mike's take on this. Any logs? The difference between the 7" street and 5" non-hd intercooler wasn't that far apart. If the hd core doesn't improve the 5" why upgrade it? Here's a link to it, btw.

I have the original 5" stepped intercooler. (Not high density but same shape I believe)
If you are coming from stock I recommend it.
It's more easy to install (although even this took me and a friend 6-8 hours going slow).

High density probably does improve results.

The dimensions are the same, the difference is in the number of core fins.

The new version will improve IAT control vs the older design

Thank you for posting a link to our website OP

I live in eastern WA and in the summer time our dry heat hits between 80-110, I'm stuck deciding on the new VRSF HD 5inch vs the 7inch.. Opinions? Thanks.

If you are running stage 2 power or more, 7" ... If stock car or stage 1, 5" HD will be enough

There have been many revisions to the VRSF FMIC line up over the years.

The old 5" was outperformed by the old 7". The new 5" HD was then as good or near as good as the old 7".

Now the 5"HD 7" (new core) and 7"HD exist and they are all improved over their predecessors.

If you are against cutting 5" HD.
If you live in hotter climate at least 7"
If you want the utmost in performance and heat soak resistance 7"HD

These can also be classified by power / stages

Stage 1 5"
Stage 2 7"
Stage 2+ 7"HD

It's not an exact science though. HP goals, climate, how the car is driven and goals of what are to be expected can persuade the choices differently.

All 3 are a significant upgrade over stock.

If you have the means and budget, I'd recommend the 7" HD to everyone. It's a quality core and performer with no compromises.
