Xtrons PE9890BPL questions

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with the Xtrons PE9890BPL head unit since I can't find anything about it on the forum.

It's between that and the latest eonon, I think it's the GA9165A?

Anyhow I like the look of the bigger screen on the xtrons, but Eonon at everywhere so I'm guessing support for them would be better- at least from other users.

If anyone has experience with either of the units I'd love to hear about it.

Cheers

I have the unit with the drive installed. Xtrons are pretty popular so there's a fair bit out there.

Yeah the one with the CD/DVD drive. I think the mechless version was roughly the same price with a bigger screen, but I just knew someone would bring a CD down the line. It's happened before

Brilliant. Can't fault it really. Sound quality is good. Bluetooth quality is good. Got the radio working now and that's good. The only thing I've not got working is an effective way of getting DAB from the main antenna, it might not be possible. I might have to use the crummy windscreen one that comes supplied. We'll see.

Yep I have this xtrons unit. Really good bit of kit. I'm not really one for buying Chinese branded stuff but this is very decent. I've got it hooked up to an aftermarket amp and speakers and it all works well. The best thing is it is more or less plug and play. For me personally, the big screen was the attraction and I've got loads of comments on how modern the interior looks now.

I've having the same issue as BeamerNub with regards to DAB signal. I have tried the windscreen glass stick on aerial and it is rubbish! So definitely have a think about a more decent solution to get a good signal. However, if you have the unit connected to your phone via WiFi hotspot each time like I do, then you can listen to radio through the internet through an app such as radioplayer which is very viable solution. To be honest, to get the most out of it it is probably best to always have it connected to WiFi or to get a dedicated SIM with data which goes in the back.

Hi lads thanks for both your replies.

Not really sure how this forum works but if there's any upvote like reddit let me know how to use it lol.

I'll probably order one up tonight then as they definitely look the easiest route to go for the money.

One last thing though do either of you guys jave iPhones, and if so what connection method do you use? I was thinking of probably just bluetoothing mine and having all music downloded on Spotify on the unit, but then again it is just more downloads.

May go the car play route with either a dongle or jailbreaking my iphone for an unofficial carplay type thing. *I know sigh I have an iPhone *

Again thanks for the replies rly appreciate it

I don't have an iPhone, so I couldn't help you on that. I have an Android. I use a free tool called MacroDroid, so when it connects to the radio's Bluetooth, it instantly switches on my hotspot on my phone. Then when it disconnects it switches it off. It all works really seamlessly.

There may be some kind of equivalent for iPhone? Apple aren't the coolest about that stuff though so you might have to jailbreak to find an equivalent app. The fact it is connected to the internet is what makes this device so good though, so make sure you have a plan in place for that. I've got 100GB of data with Three, which is enough for all my spotify, tuneinradio needs. I've also installed a tool called Mtcdialer (from xda devs), and integrated that with Google Now, which I've also given permission to run constantly in the background. That allows me at any point to go:

"OK Google, phone John Smith" and it'll do it all seamlessly. Doesn't matter what music i'm listening to or whatever, it actually works brilliantly. So far the unit has really blown me away and I've even had my sister (who owns an 18 plate 3 series) comment on how she prefers it to her iDrive system.

I've spent about £300 in total so far. I bought the unit from Amazon. It's listed on there for cheaper, but the company address is the same as Xtrons, and supply the same warranty so it's all good. I've spent a few quid on little adapters and stuff as well in an attempt to get DAB working. For now, this remains the challenge.

Do you have any pics of this unit installed? I'm considering getting one for my e90, but was curious to see how the interior looks with it installed.

Does this work on Logic 7 equipped cars?

All double DIN units move the HVAC controls down there and it sits above the centre console with the new trim.

It won‘t work with the Logic 7 System.

But some more pictures of the actual fitment would be nice

Avin makes an adapator for the L7 amp that will allow you to
run analog to fiberoptic interface for the amp . How well it works
I couldn't tell you .

It runs two channels to the amp don't know if the OEM setup does more
or runs more control signals.

That will be like that with all aftermarket HU. The climate controls have to be moved down to make space (atleast with the aftermarket Android HU designed for the e90, which is what I want)

I have the Dynavin and also has the gap under the clima elements.. thought a unit without a CD slot would solve this problem but it doesn‘t seem so :|

If your dynavin is not fitting flush at the bottom something is not right with the installation. It should be even with the rest of the dash at the bottom, there are a bunch of pics on the first page of my dynavin thread showing how to get it there. Note there is a little bit of trimming to be done on the lower bracket mounting tabs in order to get it all the way back in there so maybe that was the part you missed?

Finished fit pic of Dynavin, definitely does not stick out:

I'll take some pics of the fitment soon and post. Nope it isn't perfect and not as good as dynavin. I think with some work you can make it fit better, but I don't have the time and this is adequate for me.

Is it possible to install this unit and retain factory cic navigation to have both? What would be the necessary additional harnesses/adapters needed?
