A weekend afternoon in the Santa Cruz mountains

It has been a couple months since my car has last seen any track time and it's getting itchy! Besides, a friend of mine has recently purchased a new 6MT B7 A4 3.2 quattro and has been eager to take his new baby for a spin. Together with dea's TiAg m-sport 330i, the 3 of us decided to go for a ride in the near by Santa Cruz mountains for some fun.

And what fun it was! Listening to the roaring sound the 3.0L inline-6 produces at 5000+ rpm while watching the scenary flying past in blazing speed is sure to put an ear-to-ear smile on every driver's face. And all this while basking in the beautiful California weather. It is truly freude am fahren at its finest.

Here are some photos I took during the drive. Enjoy!

  • The beginning of the journey: the quiet town of Saratoga, CA

  • Life in the fast lane!

  • ...until our fun was briefly halted by a slow moving Corolla S

  • Deutsch brothers

  • Another view

  • There's an eerie similarity between the new Audi grille and E90 M-sport front.

  • dea's TiAg M-sport E90 with momo rims.

  • A C6 Corvette owner looking for some company...

  • Taking a break

  • SG 330i M-sport. The carbon fiber diffuser isn't really noticeable on a sparkling graphite car

  • My buddy's B7 A4 3.2 Quattro

  • another shot of dea's TiAg 330i M-sport

  • Our little caravan

  • Freude am Fahren

  • another caravan shot

  • Nothing beats a shower after a good workout.

lol totally. On our way up we passed by a county sheriff SUV parked at an intersection. Fortunately nobody got pulled over though. It was kinda surprise for me since I've driven HW9 a few times before and never saw any cop cars.

Well, lucky day I suppose.

say what?!! impounding cars.. how? And FBI?? You'd think they have better things to worry about than catching a few speeders on a remote Cali mountain.

well they're targeting certain cars/people and i'm sure that bust was over... FBI stoped sideshows in CA and gripping on those roads I guess is illegal... and my friend's friend whos on impreza-club had his car impounded. dunno... should be okay... the last few times i went i didnt see any cops.

they are cracking down on Highway 9 nowadays. They put speed bumps on this one road leading up to the highway (pierce road). I am starting to notice more cops than before. I've gone on those roads a bunch of times before and never saw any cops until recently. A co-worker who is a member for the i-club told me that they once had a roadblock on the top and the bottom of the mountains so basically all the cars were trapped in the middle. Man I just hate cops in general.

I'll tell him to look for you for all his Audi needs. How's that?

Why do you suppose your RFTs didn't grip at all?

Maybe over inflated?

Mine grip really well.

really! *shrugs* its not like i use my grip that much... iono... last few times i went 9 my rear tires kept skidding even though i wasnt even going that fast... lol

but yeah i just wanted to add that i think m-tech rear w/ no deck spoiler looks SOO clean... member edy74's alphine white e90 w/ mtech rear apron, "black cf-look diffuser", w/o deck spoiler... wow the black/white contrast on that ride... ..it just looked so clean... lol i wonder how your ride would look w/o the deck spoiler... but then again the contrast isnt as great cause u have dark on dark diffuser and edy74 has light on dark diffuser.

lol..

How are sales of 3.2 compares to other A4s?

If I recall correctly the total 325s (sedan+coupe+xi+i) outsell total 330s at about 3~4:1 ratio.

From my own experience the stock RFT grips really well. I took my car to the track a few times and it hasn't give me any problems. Obviously a lighter car such as s2000 (which is some 600lbs (!) lighter than 330i) will be able to corner faster than our car.

I like the rear look with the M-sport. I think the CF diffuser is not so noticeable on the darker colored cars. I'd love to see a Mystic blue car with M-sport+CF diffuser in person. I think that color combination would totally rock! :rocks: :rocks:
