first post warranty maintenance work

This was done at the dealership for my 2008 e90 335xi

1. Got my oil/filter changed : $132

2. Air filter : $122

3. Spark Plugs : $456 !!!!, with $260 of it being labour !!!

Has anyone else got a quote for (3) from RPM or other shops ? Seems a tad excessive on labour......

Even in warranty I get my interim oil changes done at RMP for $90.

Educated guess that all work at RMP will be less than what you paid. Install for 4 coils was only $250

You could have called RMP, Bimmersport or Stance factory to see what they would charge.

I don't know what kind of advanced air filter bmw uses for $122... I've never seen an air filter that was outside of the $20-50 range.

Also, you can also call Mike at Maranello BMW and ask him for the "maxbimmer price"

The oil and filter change at $132 isn't too bad, most shops charge $120 anyway.

To swap plugs takes about 1/2 hour so not sure why its $260... and that means you paid 196 for 6 plugs? Which is in line with what high quality plugs go for give or take 10-15%, so fighting over 3 bucks per plug is hardly worth it and kinda understandable considering its a dealership so the price on that isn't too unreasonable.

Yes, $190.02 for actual spark plugs ... 6 of them @ $31.67.

Air Filter was $55.95 and labour was $66.50.

Spark plugs are grossly overpriced in Canada. Purchase them in the US or even pay shipping and duties from Tischer, still cheaper than the dealer and get a reputable indy shop to install them.

I went to Bimmersport because my DP to midpipe was leaking. I asked them to install new gaskets only. Quoted me $40.

I get the car back, $160 owed. $25 PER GASKET, and $90 labor. It probably took them 20 minutes.

I honestly had no idea what had to be done aside from the Service light coming on in red... Lessons learned.

Oil $90 at RMP, Filter about $40.

Spark Plugs = cost of plugs + $60-80 labour at my mechanic.

If you want great service by one of the most knowlegable BMW master techs, you should call Trevor at Advanced Knowledge Automotive. His prices are reasonable for someone with his experience and high quality of service. He's also got 17 years of dealer experience right up to 2010, so knows the latest cars.

$122.00 for an air filter replacement? I hope this is a joke.
