Not sure why I never got this notification but yea you have to update the security setting. I wasn't able to connect for the past year when I got my iPhone 7. But once you update the air enabler to WPA using Telnet it's been working flawlessly.

What would be the difference between something like this (what I have atm):https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and your mentioned AirPlay product used in the DIY

At the end of the day aren't these products all going through the aux connector, so I am thinking they would experience the same bottlenecks in terms of quality and fidelity.

From what I have seen on this forum and my own experience the aux gives the worst quality whereas radio and CD sounds about 10 times better ps. I have an aftermarket audio system so the quality drop @ aux is a lot more noticable

There must be updated/better versions of this product that can be used for the DIY - this DIY is like 3 years old - post back if you find anything. I will look too!

Yeah as far as I've seen the airport express conversion to USB power is the only thing I've seen. But that involves soldering.

And for the earlier post about aux, Bluetooth is still more of a bottle neck than an aux cable, airplay can give better quality audio.
