Quick Help needed on JB4 install

installing the plugs into the ECU I didn't realize the slider has to go in half way, put the large plug in without it, obviously it will not push in now, Am I screwed? What to do?

Both sides need the sliders to lock in and fully seat, so put them back on. The ECU will slide up and down, Just pull the ecu up a little to get clearance to open the slider fully and you can then plug and lock it in properly.

what I mean is, I put on the larger block without it, so it's like stuck on and if I try to put the slider in, it only goes about 30% of the way in.

can't you pull it out since the slider is not in to lock it in place?

Not sure I understand either. If you didn't put the slider on then it won't lock into place which should allow you to just pull it off. Don't push the slider in while its seated ,just pull the slider back out and pull the large plug out.

It may also be that the plastic case of the ecu box is blocking the slider. So pull on it a little so that the slider can come out and then the plug should just come off.

What I did was placed the large box down on the ECU WITHOUT the slider

It's stuck on there, it won't just unplug for some reason.

lift straight up. Nothing should be holding it in place. Without the slider to slide the assembly up you may have to try harder?

Then there has to be something else that's pinning it down because without the slider it won't lock down and can be pulled off. Maybe you didn't seat it correctly and the pins are stuck. Try looking to see if it's pinned against anything else.

Jiggle it around. The large slider takes some moving around to get seated perfectly

Garage List
make sure the slider(s) piece is NOT upsidedown.

also, you can pull the inner DME box up to give the sliders clearance.

There is nothing holding it down, the sliders sole purpose is to secure the connections.

If you installed it without the slider you simply need to slide the actual DME unit up and out slightly to get the proper leverage to remove it. There's a good amount of pins in there so there will be friction, you just need to work it out slowly, pulling straight back.

Bump! What ever happened with this? I just did the same thing and cannot get the ecu to come back out? It is seated properly but the sliders are not in there. What can I do? The car starts and runs fine but I'm nervous about not having them on there.

I would not recommend eliminating the sliders . Vibration, wheel hop and large speed bumps could cause the connector to become dislodged . Pins and sockets are not made to handle arcing when power is interrupted by the connector coming loose. I recommend you go back over your install and put the slider back in. And I you are having problems getting the large slider on, pull on this white area of the ecu box. Picture coming soon.

The white box is flexible but you will need a second hand while dealing with the slider . Optionally , push the tabs on the ecu box to remove the DME, then secure the slider, and push the DME back down .

I understand that the sliders should be in, however, I cannot get the small and large box connectors to come off the ECU, so the sliders will not go in right now. Any idea how to get them out? I have tried pulling on them very hard and they don't budge at all.

Try pulling all the connections up and taking the whole ECU out of the tray and wiggle it.

Just had the same issue with my buddy who installed it. It was a absolute bitch.... In fact even when we had what we thought was the slider locked in it was out 1mm maybe and the car wouldn't start .. It has to be perfect. Use a screwdriver to help pry it out. Careful of course but u need to get it out. Second thing we did was use a little grease on the slider to help as the last knot screw seems to be the issue. It really is just trial and error as each time you try it , it does loosing a bit and make things a bit more friendly. We took over a hour just in that part... Wanted to plug my cobb back in like never before but I think so far the jb4 seems to pull harder, need a few more on map 5 to know.
