What I'm understanding is:
BMW changed their CarPlay sales model (at least here in USA): they no longer sell the 20 year subscription ($300). They now sell yearly subscriptions ($80).
So all you need is purchase $80/year and the offer being discussed would make it permanently activated. That is... until they change it again.

Yes, same in UK. But in other parts of Europe it seems to be different like in Sweden. BMW should make a statement!

I bought a 20' M4 last weekend. Here's a part of the order showing Apple Car Play is "free" for 20 years.

Just looked at my ConnectedDrive account and the '19 M2 and '17 X5m are both now showing booked for CarPlay without a date. It used to have 3 years for the X5m and 10 for the m2. Both of there have had the fee paid. The '18 M4 shows it as available for £260 and it's never had it paid for. It appears that one off payment for life of vehicle ownership on the UK

Update: as expected it's only free for 2019 and newer vehicles. Hate to be right but even the earlier language was pointing toward it being only free for cars on the subscription plan. The earlier cars were on the "one time activation" plan
