afe midpipe questions

Hi, I have an e92 328i with the n51 engine and is looking into an afe midpipe to pair up with my pe. My question is that would installing an afe midpipe triggers a CEL? and since I am in California, would I still be able to pass the smog check with the afe midpipe?
I did some research and found that some says the midpipe is longer so the exhaust sticks out a little bit but some says the afe midpipe has the exact same lenght. Can anyone confirm that you dont need to shorten any pipe to fit it with the pe?
Thanks in advance

Nope no CEL will be triggered since theres no 02 sensors from the mid pipes back.

California emissions testing varies by county. If you have a visual, you will fail. If you have a sniffer test, you may fail. If you just have an OBDII test, you will pass.

It may be worth mentioning that the fines for being caught in California with modified emissions equipment are very, very steep. Proceed with caution.

And since your stock exhaust had to be cut to use the PE, it's hard to tell if any midpipe will just clamp right into place. My hunch is that the midpipes are usually built longer than necessary so that you can trim them to length.
