335i FBO - Traction issues.

Hi all,

I would like to collect some feedback on the most beneficial mods I can do to increase rear wheel traction, especially launching the car.

I'm having a very difficult time putting the power down especially in 1st gear(8 PSI boost limit). Even a 2nd gear pull sometimes feels like I am ice skating.

titium has recommended nolathane rear sub frame bushings. Which I have ordered already.

Current tyres Nt05 275/35/19 (these are rubbish from day 1)
Federal Rsrr 275/35/19 ( Okay 2.0- 2.1 60 ft )
Past tyres Nt01 265/35/18 (very grippy 1.8 60ft, not available for 19's)

LSD/ 285s / 295s?

limited 8psi 1st gear with those previous semi slicks tyres and your having issues? thats quite odd.. as stock 335i pushes around 8.5-8.8psi and to my memory the grip was alright with the standard runflats

hes running e85. not entirely sure but I'm going to assume a backend flash with more timing advance. can't really compare 8psi stock to his 8psi if that's the case and that is more then likely the difference.

ill upload the wheel alignment soon. From what i see the rears are not 0. 4/5ths of the tyre has contact with the ground. Not sure if bmw's allignment comes like this from the factory.

With the nt01s i had before i could launch at 18psi no problem. unfortunately they are not available for 19s.

rsrr is about a 10psi 1st gear max launch.

Map 7 e85 mhd jb4 is very aggressive as titium stated. power comes with a big punch. that's is also another reason.

Stock rear alignment has a lot of negative camber and a lot of toe, not good for traction. Better to keep rear camber closer to -1 to -1.3 degrees for traction.

Your NT05s also might need a little heat for them to grip up properly too. If they're not up to temperature or the correct pressures then you're not going to get the most out of them. Not sure how sensitive they are to temperature, I know Hankook RS3s are pretty slippery in the cold.

Subframe bushings should help keep the car straight, also rear toe arms and LSD would be beneficial.

yeh tittium i know his running fbo e85, i just thought the 275's semi's may have compensated that extra punch of power the e85 delivers on limited 8psi.
and i was looking to get NT05's next for the grip lol.. dam

I get next to no wheels spin on 275/30 NT05's pushing out just under 320rwkw on the advan dyno in my M/T 335i (I have a M3 LSD)

How old are the tyres?

Yeah right :-/

What sorta power are you putting out?

I was getting a lot of chassis flex/flop and some wheelspin prior to the m3 retrofit.

Stage 1 fmic MHD here and 0 traction loss from a standing start, even with stock run flats, last n54 car was the same, test drove a stock n55 once and it fried them all the way through first and into second almost like launch control, why wont my tuned n54s do even half of that.

If you only had them a week they may not even be cycled through where the release agent from the tire mould has worn off. Also like someone else stated they must be warm before launching. A short drive will help with that .

I had a similar issue with BFG KDW when I put new ones on the rear. It took a while before grip was back, and then I was at the wear bars again!

it grips but i can feel it's not as planted as my other tyres. basically if you have 18s get the nt01s they are amazing.
