Honestly anything could've caused this engine to knock. It's not worth trying to figure it out but I think my belt that shredded and entered the front main seal is the cause of my engine failure. I sent it to an indy who dropped the pan to clean all the belt material and get a new gasket. The belt pieces made it's way up to the valve cover via the timing chain which still has debris in it sadly. What I've learned from this whole thing, never let your OFHG leak and to always service your belt. At the end of the day, a $500 job that I should've done sooner would've saved me $7.5k :\

Dude I am living the same nightmare. OFHG went unaddressed for too long, belt blew, bits in the engine, damaged valve.

Can you tell me where you got your engine? Thanks!

How's your engine holding up or what's your connection with Ghassan? GF's 08 535xiT lost it's first engine around 120k...seems that a leaking injector forced some rod knocking issues and then ultimately the engine failed when piston #1 lunched itself and the engine seized. I picked up a used 75k engine locally and it hasn't even been 10k and this ones got rod noise as well. At this point I'm looking into Ghassan or MMP rebuilt engines with their upgraded rod bearings...something I should have done in hindsight.

Haven't started working on her car yet...life, family, etc has gotten in the way. I'm finishing up my 7 so she can drive that, I'll get my X5M back and then I'll start taking her car apart...again :/ Likely going with Ghassen though since we've talked so much via Facebook Messenger.

Did you end up going with Ghassan?
If so, could you share how your experience with them turned out?
