Key fob question
Hello,
Recently the lock button stopped working on both of my remote entry keys, non CA system. Unlock and trunk work fine, central locking inside car works fine, everything is working normally except the lock button. Occasionally it will work and lock the car (2006 E90), but lately it's 99% not working. There wasn't a gradual decrease in its functionality, one day it just stopped working, then once every blue moon it will work. My question is, has anyone else had this problem? It seems as if the button itself is broken, or it is no longer making contact with internals to activate the lock function. I called BMW and they said oh no, better come on by and buy a new key. But at this point I don't mind opening one of the keys if it's fixable. Has anyone had this problem and fixed it? My searches on the forum didn't come up with anything. The button depresses normally and feels like it should work. Maybe the repeated slotting of the key into the car ignition has worn down the internal bumper (if there is one) after 10+ years? Thanks for your time and suggestions! |

Wrong key! My key doesn't look anything like that. 2006 E90 fob is what I'm inquiring about. Thanks though.

But it works the same.
As far as the electrical s are concerned. It has a battery it has a transponder it has buttons. its inductively charged. Could the main car battery be weak? Last edited by ctuna; 01-08-2017 at 01:33 PM.. |

Excuse my ignorance, but if it's a battery issue how come the unlock button and trunk button work normally? I'm not very familiar with this system. I will try a new battery though, no harm in trying. |

I would check your main battery but if you said you changed
it a few weeks ago its probably good. If is does have the same symptoms on both your fobs I can only speculate the CAS board or programming has gotten messed up somehow. Last edited by ctuna; 01-09-2017 at 01:23 PM.. |

FIXED E90 Remote
remote worked fine except for LOCK button...looked at every blog about it, finally someone suggested testing IR remote at O'reilly's or Autozone. The tester lit just fine for unlock and trunk buttons but not for Lock button. I bit the bullet and opened the case with xacto knife and managed to do it without drawing blood. With case off, we tested button again...still not working. then took some tweezers and jumped the solder points and LOCK function worked!!!! BAD BUTTON !!! The computer/electronics geek I work with removed lock button with pinpoint soldering iron and replaced button with one removed from a similar $8 Ebay replacement. SUCCESS!!!
