Exclamation My airbag got replaced today under the Takata recall (07 E92 335i)

My airbag just got replaced under the Takata airbag recall. Last week, BMW called me and asked me to bring my car in.

I booked it for today 1pm, dropped it off, took 35 mins including a complimentary wash inside and out.

What do you need to do now:

Nothing, just wait till you receive a phone call like I did, or just wait till 01/07/2018 when the official list of affected VINs is out (according to the two below links), 01/07 is only a month away.

https://www.bmw.com.au/offers-and-se...n_schedule.pdf

https://www.productsafety.gov.au/rec...airbag-recalls

I was going to wait till 01/07 like everyone else, BMW are the ones that contacted me, and asked me to bring my car in, otherwise I would have just waited.

In the meantime, if you‘re not the original owner of your 135i/335i, fill out this PDF contact form, save it, and email it to BMW Australia at “customerdata@bmw.com.au”, so they have your correct contact details as the owner of your vehicle, in case they contact you like they did with me.

Link to PDF form:
https://www.bmw.com.au/offers-and-se...owner_bmw_.pdf

Off-topic, I saw a M4 CS there! Spent the whole 35 mins drooling while my car was getting ready

Did exactly this re the PDF ownership details form today - and registering my two cars' details for the recall #0061770400 "E8X E9X REPAIR CABLE BATTERY PLUG LINK INSULATION" for my local dealership to rectify.

Driver side airbags are scheduled for replacement from 1/7/18 onwards - see www.bmw.com.au/recall.

I have a beater 2006 Honda CRV and Honda have sent me over the past year multiple physical letters, SMS and emails reminding me to take it in to get the airbag rectified. Very good effort on their part in making sure cars are affected. I didn't even have to register or do any work in order for them to contact me.

BMW on the other hand, deny there's any issue when enquiring about it months ago, but now are finally getting off their asses and getting something done. Pretty poor response in comparison to a 'lesser' brand.

BMW vehicles are sold with such low margins compared to honda's

Lexus offer the best service, I was shocked how bad BMW was the first few times I went to my dealer (no courtesy car and rude staff) and vowed to never go back there...

Your car looks fantastic Pete, nice OEM+ like mods with restraint clearly shown in the choice of mods to not make it look ricey or modified.

Clean fresh paint always looks good, and the SGM paint looks very classy!

Bmw darwin 2013 was a perfect example of disgusting service and prices.

Never been back and never will.

Thanks for posting this, I was able register myself as the new owner of LotusBMW’s 335i wagon this morning and within an hour BMW emailed back to tell me the car’s got 3 outstanding recalls for injectors, blower and some cable. I’ll be calling BMW Brighton in the morning to get those looked at.

Can anyone tell me what the injector recall is? It’s just developing a misfire when cold that feels like injectors (new fuel pump was done recently), so I’m wondering if this recall might fix that....

Youre doing well!

yeah I think it was in 2010 there was a injector recall on the N54's, so its been outstanding for a long time! Battery cable was a few years after.

Injector recall in Australia? Never heard about it. I think the recall here was selected vins only.. I had to pay for my injectors to be replaced in 2012. Fill me in if I am missing something..

Yeah I think it was pre 08 models or something along those lines? I never did see an official announcement but when I was on the forums in 2012 a few of the guys said they'd had it done

When I went to change my injectors as PM I had 6 x index 10 injectors so it seems my car had been done also (all service history paperwork doesn't indicate it had, but car was sold as premium select vehicle to 2nd owner in 2010 from bmw dealer)

Yeah the service dude at Brighton BMW said that, asked when it had last seen a main dealer. I don’t think it has, history suggests it’s always been specialists.

The recalls / technical campaigns are below

1) 0013050200 - EX FX N53 N54 ECE CHECKING INJECTORS AND REPLACING IF NECESSARY
2) 0061660400 - E9X (USA) CHECKING AND IF NECESSARY REWORKING PLUG CONNECTION FOR BLOWER OUTPUT STAGE
3) 0061760300 - E8X E84 E89 E9X (WITH SA 0823) INSTALL REPAIR CABLE FOR B+ CABLE

They don’t have the parts to complete no2 so it’ll need to go in again, but at least I’ll find out on Thursday what the situation is. I’m just expecting them to renege on the injectors seeing as how it’s modified with the JB4 etc.

Just had it confirmed, 6 new injectors, a battery cable and new airbag going into it tomorrow. Parts for the blower aren’t available yet so it’ll need to go back for that.

Probably because all of the fatalities (besides 1 or 2) have been in Honda vehicles. After seeing the list I can sort of understand why other manufacturers aren't concerned.

I dropped mine off yesterday to the dealer and they said that the parts for the blower were also not in but they gave me a Bmw 2017 430I courtesy car until the parts come in... They said it could be months which means I continue to have their car until its ready.. How cool is that.

Dude I was dealing with reckoned a few weeks.

Must say first impressions of BMW Brighton are very good. Let me into the workshop to look under the car at a diff oil leak and were genuinely interested in all the changes to it, absolutely zero hassle from them. Suggested I take it to have the JB4 checked now that it has the new injectors, flow rates would be different so it may need redoing.

More importantly, quite a decent cup of tea

Had my airbag replaced today at Motorline BMW. Also, they checked the blower controller connection which they said looked ok but will get me back at a later date to replace when they get some into stock. It is also a recall.

I don't know. Cannot tell from looking at it. There is nothing on the paperwork to say it was.
