Clutch Recommendations
Currently have a 2011 335i that is FBO. I just replaced the HPFP the other day and the car has a lot more power and now the clutch slips at full throttle in 3rd. What do you guys recommend I do go with a 335is clutch with the MFactory SMFW or Spec Stage 2+. Later on I do want to upgrade the tube and make 500+ but that won't be for a long time I'd say at least a couple years. I also have a lift and could install it myself. Also what's the feel on the Spec clutches compared to stock?

Go with the MFactory SMFW and Spec 2 +. Thank me later when you dont have to change out the iS clutch when it doesn't hold 500 +. Chatter concern, turn up the engine idle to 900 RPMs. The Spec is about 20% firmer than the stock clutch, which is fine for me as I found the stock clutch a tad flimsy.

I went new duel mass and spec 2+ two years ago, clutch pedal is no heavier but it does grab quicker, even still no one would argue if you claimed it was factory. There are a few horror stories people finding the smfw to be terrible to daily and the dual mass is fine for a pure stg2 as long as its not worn out. if you have designs on a stage 3 you will need a smfw.

I did a lot of research on clutches when I upgraded mine on my FBO car due to slippage. I went with the is clutch but my next choice would’ve been the ACT. I didn’t care for spec’s offerings.

julian, > 500 hp and there likely will be misses due to timing issues by going with a DMFW. This has been hashed out years ago by the N54 big power wigs.
lurker, a DMFW is fine only if it is new, which at this point few, if any, are. julian is looking to eventually go over 500 hp, which is the no go rpm. whyzee, unless you installed a Spec clutch, and you are running > 500 whp, that opinion is not valid. |

Have you guys done the cdv delete yet? I would recommend doing it right away if you are having slipping issues. It will not fix your end issues but it will help a lot.

I was in the same situation and I replaced mine with the 335is/F10 550i clutch. It was cheap for an OEM BMW part and kept a very similar feel to stock. The only clutch feel difference was a slight change in engagement feel and maybe a hair more weight in the throw. Very easy to drive in traffic and I haven't had a single issue with slippage.
If you're on the fence about it not being enough, keep in mind that this clutch was used in the F10 550i and has no problem holding the 507 horsepower and 581 lb/ft of torque that the Dinan tune makes.
