Can you check compression on an engine stand?

I blew up my N55 engine (wasn’t my fault, trans failed and forced the car into 2nd at 85 mph) anyway, I found a used N55 motor for a great price on FB marketplace. Says it has a new crank and new bearings, and he has photos and receipts for them. Says he’s selling it as he swapped a 2JZ into his car.

Can I safely jump the starter and do a compression test? I’m assuming the answer is obviously yes, but is there anything else I should be aware of or look out for?

It might move around and smack if it's on chains you but otherwise (without fuel and with oil) it should be absolutely fine. I couldn't think of anything that could go wrong tbh.
