Hi,

i ordered and received two new OEM Mitsubishis that will be installed by an indie soonly. ( because rattle, front wastegate stuck sometimes, and a bit of lag at low rpm)

After browsing a lot of thread, i became a bit paranoid reading a lot of people with new snails and still having rattle.

Does new turbos comes already with wastegate well adjusted ?

It's probably best to hook up a vacuum gauge and check/adjust them if necessary. Much better than finding out afterwards.

I have a vaccum gauge, maybe i can do the test with a T and a syringe ?

It should be close at 6hg if i remember well.

Found on the forum :
"The number is 5.9 inches, at which point the wastegate disc should be contacting it's seat, but you should still be able to rotate the disc against it's seat with moderate resistance."

I will report when tested.

Hi,

Just tested both wastegate on new mitsu OEM.

I used a T with a vacuum gauge and a 60 ml syringe (2$).
(if you plan to test it too, a 60ml syringe is the minimum tank cause i was able to reach 7inHG at maximum with it, i guess a 150ml would gave a better range of usage concerning inHG)

Difficult to say what's a moderate resistance but....

At 5.9inHG, both wastegate discs were closed, but one was still moving with "easy" resistance and another with "moderate" resistance as intended.

The easy one, will pass from "easy" to "moderate" at 6inHG.

As it's only a 0.1inHG difference, i do not want to mess with something and consider that it's ok and that new OEM came pre adjusted, what do you think ?

After reading other forums advice, and for my peace of mind, i decided to adjust the "weak" one to feel the same of the "strong" one. (even it's a minuscule difference 0.1inHG)

Both now have almost the same resistance at 5.9inHG : closed but still able to spin the disc with a "moderate resistance". It needed one turn or less to reach the same feeling. (Also counted the number of threads, and it's the same)

Btw i noticed that the build date written on both turbo has a 8 months difference, so it probably wasn't the same person who adjusted the arm, 6.0inHG versus 5.9inHG.

It's not an exact science with a syringe and a gauge, but now they are almost sync.

To my knowledge, Mitsubishi has not done anything to upgrade the wastegates on their turbos. You might want to invest $250.00 or so and have your Indy upgrade them prior to install.

Otherwise, you'll likely run into the same problems of the past, in time.

MHI had made some updates over the years... and they are certainly better than lots of the other off the shelf Chinabay junk "upgrades" out there that most use anymore.

OP don't make any further changes, just let it rock as they are is our very healthy $.02.
