BSH,

You guys really can't use VW 2.0 TFSI pictures here. This is a completely different engine, although still direct injection. The VW 2.0 turbo is known for the HUGE amounts of oil fumes being produced.

If I cut my OCC and show you that there is mesh only 1/4 of the way down sitting suspended like a splash shield, will you refund my money if I provide you of my purchase receipt?

I don't know yet! I am not ready to make a claim like this at this time! That is why I am gathering more user input. Perhaps I've not given it enough time or perhaps I have a defective unit.

Don't get me wrong, BSH is VERY well known in VW/AUDI community and they are very reputable shop. This is the reason why I bought from them in the first place.

However, I am doubting the effectiveness of the design of their OCC compared to other competitors and namely 43 Draft Designs, which are another highly reputed vendor in the VW/AUDI scene.

Thanks for sharing. Would you be kind enough to look at this page and tell me which couplings/fittings and how many feet of hose you *think* I will need to make a kit for my car? I have yet to look at my N54 closely enough to get a parts list myself so if you could tell me what you used for your OCC and where you mounted it I can place my order with 42DD and piece together a high-quality, sub $150 OCC kit for the community.

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks,

That would be great. Sadly it does not help me but anyone who ends the crazy expensive occ market has my respect.

For the record, I have a BSH can and I have just noticed the start of some oil collection on the bottom of the can, so mine seems to be working fine.

Good to know! How many miles since you've installed it?

Guys,
I have another question (while I wait for Mr.5 to answer my last one)...

I noticed the BSH OCC comes with hose adapters.

My question is simple: are those adapters needed because BSH OCC has different size inlet/outlet than those on our N54?

If the above is correct, what is the exact size of the nipples on our N54?

The 42DraftDesigns OCC uses 3/4" PCV tubing (accessory page here).
Can I plug that tubing directly on the N54 without adapters? Do you think I can do without any 90-degree or "T" fittings?
I would prefer OCC---tubing---N54 if possible, without any plastic fittings in between of course.

I would appreciate a clear response to the above so that I can place my order today. I am ordering a customized stealth can with dipstick, it will be sick and I am eager to assemble everything, make a clean looking bracket and document the process on here.

Thanks guys.

-Walter

I'd advise against the stealth can for one reason only: You can't take it apart and wash the mesh "oil stack". Its a drawback of BSH can as well.

The adaptors that BSH comes with are actually very useful because of the way things connect to the PCV system. BMW uses these weird connectors which I don't think will connect to a hose correctly, but I could be wrong...

Thanks for the info Vasillalov. The stealth OCC doesn't use a wire mesh but merely perforated discs, so it should be easily washable with some mineral spirits/green stuff... fill it up, shake it, rinse, repeat. I will confirm this with John from 42DD during the ordering process.

I am very interested in this, I am eager for someone to confirm this and provide more details on the connectors on the N54 side.

You don't need a T fitting.
I actually had the hose assemblies from the Riss Racing catch can, but when I realized how bad that design was, I just made my own.

Thank you. So will the 3/4" PCV hose from 42DD plug directly onto the N54 connectors?

Thank you,

I'm really not too sure.
I know that one connector is bigger than the other.
Like I said, I used the connectors and piping from the Riss racing connector kit and although they leaked like crazy some RTV made it perfect.

Thanks. I went ahead and submitted my order to 42DraftDesigns.

We shall see what comes out of this.

Walter,

You are definitely on the right track. You might have to get some fittings from Home Depot to make it fit nicely and look professionally done.

Keep us posted on the progress.

Thanks man, will do. I spent over $170 because I bought the quick drain valve, clamps and extra hose just in case, but my goal as stated is to give you guys the recipe for a high quality, sub-$150 OCC.

It is based on the 42DD Stealth can, but I am having mine custom made with the same dipstick they put on the "Ultimate" OCC.

If anyone has their Riss Racing OCC instructions (or the instructions that came with any N54 OCC for that matter), please share them with me (scan or take pics). I suspect everything will make sense once I remove the engine cover, but I'd hate to oversee some small detail and wind up with oil in my engine bay.

Will keep you posted,

-Walter

Here you go man:

The hardest thing is to get the square clip off of the PCV. You'll need a few screwdrivers.
