Brake pad wear
The condition based service information on my car is telling me I will need new front brake pads at 23,000Klms. I've only done about half this distance so far. Ok ... I know i'm a late braker and I don't drive like a granny and I'm getting real sick of cleaning the brake dust of my rims but 23,000ks just sounds like excessive wear. Interested to hear what wear other are getting. Yes ... I have the slush box transmission which doesn't help.
Interestingly, the CBS is saying that the first oil change at 27,000 klm. So when I take it in for service I should say "Change the pads and check the oil" |

wow, thats a quick warning for changing brake pads?? Ive done 20,000kms on my car and i have another 8000kms before oil is due for a change (but ive already done one myself 2000kms ago) so technically im not due for one for a long while.
Brakes, well, that hasnt come up on my dash yet... but not to say that it wouldnt... ever other light seems to come on every now and then...annoying but what to do?? be prepared for a big bill if you take car in for oil and brakes... oil change and filter change i had a quote for $210...brakes, depending if you need all 4 or just 2... few hundy there...probably around half a $k.... u able to do it yourself? brake pads and oil change is easy done if you got right tools.. id be doing mine... but hey, ive been called a tight-arse on this forum saying one who can afford a bimmer can afford bmw services... im not a tight arse... im just wise and mechnically able to do things myself!

Thanks Lea,
No message has come up but if you scroll through the menu using the stalk, you can get an indication as to when things need to be done. Also ... if you can do things yourself well thats good enougth. |

Yeah brakes are pretty easy to change, unless BMW has some sort of fancy stuff that's requires special attention ?
Even I, a car moron, have managed pads. Anyone done this DIY yet ? SJ |

but for something likt this, i would be getting a spare pair of hands, and a weekend, and doing it myself
