Fuel range on a full tank with 335i???

Just curious, what mileage range are you guys getting on a full tank. My screen shows 380 when i start up the engine. Oh and I think my computer is busted because my fuel range keeps going up tonight when i was driving.

The car knows how much fuel is onboard. As your fuel economy fluctuates, the computer recalculates the range. If you fill up after a lot of city driving where the average mpg is in the low 20's it will show something like your 380. But if you then take a trip with alot of highway miles where the average mpg increases to the 30+ range, the fuel range will increase as well.

A real life example: I drove to London last week. I topped up and my range was in the high 300s with an average mpg of 24.7. When I got to the motorway I reset the fuel economy and my mpg went to 37. My range shot up to about 550 miles. I think it is rather conservative because at 37 mpg for a tank of 16.1 gallons, the range should be 595. Maybe it doesn't take into account the 50 mile reserve.

For an absurd range display try this. Fill up the tank. Then find a fairly long descending hill. At the top, but while at speed, reset the average mpg display. The display will change momentarily to ---.- and then show something around 95 mpg (possibly max at 99.9). Before the bottom of the hill and the computer "recovers", look at the range. Don't know if the car can even display 1500 miles which is what 16.1 gallons at 95 mpg will give. Oh, and get a photograph when you do this.

You need to stop wearing lead-lined shoes.

I recall reading that the "range" is based on the average mpg for your last 18 miles. So I've started a trip with a full tank and it read 390 or 400 mi, but after driving for 20 or 30 minutes, it read 420 mi even though I'd been burning fuel the whole time.
