N43/N53 MOT emissions info
This seems to have been discussed on other forums but thought I’d post here to warn anyone that might have issues at the MOT. Mine failed on Friday on the emissions test and also the handbrake efficiency (which has been an advisory on the last few MOTs to be fair). Anyway I’ve sorted the handbrake. But it was wrongly failed on the emissions test. The lambda number was showing as quite a bit more than 1 (1.6 or something, don’t know exact number).
The acceptable lambda range for the N43 and N53 are actually between 0.7 and 4. The tester had used the limits for an N46 by the looks of it which only goes up to about 1.03. After some backward and forward they realised they’d selected the wrong parameters in their equipment and passed it. Might be good to know for any N43/N53 owners still knocking about. Who knows what kind of cash would be thrown about to try and wrongly ‘fix’ that. Last edited by wrongmark; 07-27-2022 at 08:56 AM.. Reason: Corrected the lower lambda range |

Thanks for the heads-up. It's a bit of a shocker that they were applying the wrong limits. You'd think that would have been programmed into their test equipment years ago!
