2011 e90 sedan. Trunk click click click

When I press the release trunk button under the steering wheel you hear the trunk lock- unlock and lock quickly. And of course it’s in the locked position. I have fiddle with it before it unlocks.

This doesn’t happen all the time but what is the issue?

Here is what it sounds like. Doesn’t matter if I use the remote or the button below the steering wheel. Same issue

Does it do it if you pull up on the trunk on the same time? Thinking it should pop open a little once unlocked, which yours doesn't seem to do...

That sounds loud! Much louder than I'd expect.

My money is on a failed latch mechanism.

Sounds like it's actuating for the standard 0.5s set in the JBBF, but just skipping teeth rather than opening the latch mechanism.
