Guys, keep in mind the stock thermostat doesn't open until like 220 - 230F so your aux oil cooler cannot be doing a thing if your oil temps are 205F. This is not my opinion, but a fact.

Very true. I still dont like how high the thermostat is.

Here is my z06 after an hour of driving in 90 degree heat.

Then again it's not running oil through turbo's and it has a dry sump with over 10 quarts of oil.

Very old thread! In case anyone hasn't seen it, there is a low temp thermostat option that will allow proper warmup but keep your oil temps quite a bit lower: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1138235

By delete, you mean remove the spring and piece that is in there with the spring?

I'm working on an oil cooler based on jmars ground work. I will have pics either this weekend or next.

The main difference is I used a mishimoto banjo fitting (m20x1.5 to -10AN) on top of the oil thermostat rather than drilling out and welding the stock plugs. Used a setrab 625 and line and fittings from ANfittingsdirect.com. All in all, about $360.

I think you better run the oilcoolers in series , rather then the paraallel setup shown here.
Running parallel might lower your oil pressure...
Also i would use a Thermostat delete plate and get an aftermarket thermostat for the desired oil temperature.
that way the car still warms up nicely, rather then taking ages to warm.

just my 2 cents

As long as there are not air pockets, I don't believe there should be a significant pressure drop either way since it is a closed system. I say this ignoring the pressure variations due to the changes in temperature, and just comparing series vs parallel coolers. What will change is the flow rate through the lines and coolers because of the relationship of pressure, volume, and flow rate. In parallel, the oil will flow much slower through both coolers than if they were in series because there will be a larger volume. Which will actually allow the coolers to work better because the oil will be inside the coolers for a longer period. Once the oil returns to the thermostat, it will return to a higher flow rate because of the smaller volume available to it. But I don't believe the pressure drop should be significant.

Also, I have the low temp thermostat from AD Engineering.

Cars without an OEM oil cooler need a whole new housing, there's not just plugs in them to be removed.

Edit: hopefully you figured this out by now. It's been 3 years and I just realized how old this thread is.

This is a great mod, especially for those that live in a year-round hot climate.

What about just upgrading the stock one with a better one?

Dude, I love your take on this especially using the Mishimoto banjo fittings. I was planning on doing this but I didn't feel like drilling and welding into the housing. This is definitely my next mod...thanks for the info. I do however worry about pressure drop. I remember sneakydeeky, not sure if he's still a member here but he ran dual ER oil coolers. i can't remember the exact series of events but his engine was starved of oil due to pressure drop(our oil pans don't have baffles so the oil pools to one side when you turn, brake hard, accelerate). Anyways...he blew his engine. Ever since that occurrence I've been wary of running dual oil coolers but can someone pls explain this? I'm hoping i'm misinformed so i can install this. Thank you

Doesn't the 1m run dual oil coolers? Seems to be fine in that car.

How did you install the hoses onto the top of the oem oil cooler I know you can take the two hex screws out but is there a simple adaptor you can screw into the removed hex screws that will fit the aftermarket hoses?

Any banjo bolt m18x1.5 would work there. Those above are from Mishitomo. I have friends selling a used setup. He sold his car. Talk to him here: http://www.n54tech.com/forums/member.php?u=16172
