It's a pity they don't mark alloy wheels with the VIN either invisibly or stamped onto the rims. I guess it is something you can do later though with an invisible marker and then pop some lacquer over it?

I was thinking the same. How hard would it be to get your reg engraved on the inside? Would be easy to see who they got knicked from then

A few years ago, there was scheme where your local tyre place would do just this and post code engrave your alloys (much in the same way that they did for bikes)

Not sure what happened to that scheme (for wheels or bikes) but you can pick up one of those Dremmel (is that how it is spelt) engravers for £20 so perhaps you could do it yourself?

In fact heres one on eBay for a tenner http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/AC-12V-engrave...#ht_2270wt_905

How hard can it be?

PS

Thinking about this, you might be better off engraving the reg number or VIN just incase you sell the car.

VIN would be the best, as that would never change. Although I guess make sure it's not on a lacquered part! Back of the "spokes"/centre hub is usually not treated and where the manufacturer put all their stuff?
