The SA and SM finally called me back yesterday. They said they could offer to cover 50% of the cost, which would be about $1000 out-of-pocket from me.

I still don't understand. The part failed at under 70k, how is not covered 100%?

I'm calling BMWNA today.

BMWNA is offering the same 50/50 split.

When is this part getting recalled? Maybe I can hold out; my smog test isnt until Feb 2016.

Recall? I wouldn't count on that.

SCR drama

Grrr. My 335d started throwing a code on the SCR passive tank level sensor. I'm now in the waiting list for the redesigned part. 1st tank failed around 50,000 miles. Current one failed at 101,000 miles.

Since there's no estimated ship date on the redesigned tank, I guess I'll look into that alphabet delete thing in the meantime...

900?? What that like 2-3% of all 335d sold in the U.S.? And that's just the number they expect to replace in the short term. That's a number deserving of a recall.

I am on B/O for the active tank replacement for the campaign.

Dont let them charge you for it, it is covered by the campaign (unless the campaign was already performed).

SCR tank fail

I had my tank replaced about 3 weeks ago. Hmmm, I am going to pull the cover and see if it was in fact changed. The work order says the tank was changed due to a level sensor failure. If all of you can't get one and so many are on back order, I wonder why (or if ) they changed mine in a day and a half. Kind of makes me wonder if it was changed at all. Isn't the active and passive tanks in one unit?

Nope, but the active tank sort of fits inside the u-shape of the passive tanks. See the photos I posted in this thread: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1114976

I just got the SES error for the SCR sensor error (4BAC); 88.6k miles on it.

Bridgeport BMW reached out to BMWNA and instead of costing $2,500, they will meet the price of the aftermarket SCR tank and sensor ($500) install the OEM one ($1,416) plus the 7.2 hours of labor ($149 per hour). I have no extended warranties. I have to sign off on this before 90,000 miles (authorizing the repair).

Per my earlier post, I had mine changed out at 70k under warranty...the SA implied that every 335d owner replaces the tank within 80k.

Obviously too late for me, but maybe that's why BMWNA is doing a partial.

In case you haven't seen this option.

Thanks! But I had printed that for the writer. That's when they came back and said they would in effect match it plus labor, i.e. $1,500. Not perfect, I know, but I don't have a garage to do the work nor leave the car apart (public parking). Plus, my mechanical abilities leave something to be desired. It all sucks as far as the money and time. But if you have to drop the tank and potentially sub frame members, etc. that's above my skill level. I wish I could access it under the rear seat like an E36.
