Track Day Rims/Tires

Auto Crossed the car this weekend. I was wondering if anyone had suggestions for set of cheap 18" light rims for track days. I would like to use Kuhmo V710's. I guess 245 in the front and 275 in the rear. For people who do take a set of rims with them do all 4 fit in the car? I would assume with the seats down I can fit them all...

I use 17x8.5 Kosei K1's all around for track use...Available at tire rack. Not sure why you want 18" unless you have an aftermarket BBK that 17's won't fit over. You ever take the car to a track, or just autoX?

You can fit a full set of wheels/tires in the car, but it's definitely tight. Don't plan on having any other passengers.

Rotas have always been favorites for the JDM scene. fairly light 18" cast wheels and extremely cheap for what you get.

one in the trunk, 3 in the back seat with passenger seat slid forward...one petite passenger.

tire rack specials and close outs are great!

If you fold the rear seats down, they fit easy. I like to keep the boxes for my wheels though, or just get those little wheel bags.

OZ Ultralegerra, Enkei NT-03, both from the tirerack, or check out Turner Motorsport and Bimmerworld for their inexpensive track wheels.

As far as tire recommendations go, SSR Comp-C's are really inexpensive and really lightweight.

Kosei K1s in 17x8.5 with 255 Victoracers.

No rub with stock suspension. No rub with coilovers lowered about 0.75 inches. cheap as hell, fast as hell, light as hell.

These are great if you toss tires in the back seat (or trunk for that matter)

18x9 LTW5 or D-Force wheels with either 245 V710s or 255s will work great! 275 is too big for the 9" rim. We are currently running that set-up. However, the 335i really needs a bit more tire. We are trying 265s on all four next.

And all four wheels/tires will fit in the car along with your tool bag, lightweight floor jack, helmet, and a passenger if you choose to take one!

I call 'not it' for being the passenger in that car!!! Lucky for me, my father-in-law trailers his 911 to the track, so he can take my track wheels in his suburban when we go.

We have wheel and tire fitment information in at least six other threads. It would be helpful to keep it in just one. Why not keep it here under "Track Day Rims/Tires". Anyone want to summarize what we have so far in one post and then others can copy and add to the same post?

It appears that 8.5" widths with 32-40 offsets have no problems front or rear. 9.0" widths run into problems in the front. A 40 offset in a 9.0" may come in contact with some coilovers and the stock strut without a 3mm spacer. ET32-35 is a better fitment in the front, but negative camber of at least 1.5 - 2.0 is required with the ET32 to eliminate any rubbing in the front. Rear can accept larger 9.5" widths and is not as sensitive a fitment as the front, but offset cannot be ignored there.

List you wheels, offsets, and tires here:

Enkei NT-03 18x8.5 ET38 w/ Nitto NT-01 245 40 18 at all four corners.

What class are you running in? There are restrictions and you may not be able to drop down to a 17" wheel if you're running in most of the stock classes and your car came with 18" wheels. You can get something with a wider offset (+15mm max I believe) and run whatever tires you can fit on them without modification.

All this is if you're going for points though... otherwise just get a set of 17s and save the cost on a lot of areas. I would probably get a set of Koseis or some OEM 17" rim for track use at a later time.

Well I have a 335 coupe with sport package. I was looking at the Enkei NT03 last night. I used to run RPF1 on my EVO and thought it was a great wheel. You guys mentioned the 18x8.5 but they also make a 18x10. I would like to fit as much rubber as possible in the rear. Maybe a 275 or 285. Just wondering if it can be done...

I will be running the car in F-stock. Pretty much the only mod I plan on running is tires.

btw i haven't looked at the rules... am i going to be stuck running the same size wheel as stock if I run in fstock? My goal was to just fit whatever the largest rcomp would fit in the rear hehe

Check to make sure but in FS I think you have to run same dimension wheels, but you're allowed +15mm offset. Not exactly sure about tire size either... But you'll have to run 18s if you are going to compete and get points.

It'd be a good idea to upgrade shocks as well as that's allowed in FS. Unfortunately, no rear sway bar upgrade possible, but front swaybar is allowed. Unless the rules have changed recently that's what I believe are the rules for most stock classes.

BTW...I think the only Kosei wheels that will fit the 335 are the K1's and the K3's. The K1's have a 40mm offset and the K3's a 30mm offset.

Are the Victoracers you are mentioning Kumho V700 VictoRacers 255/40ZR17? They are $173/tire plus $15/tire to heat cycle them. What if you don't want to run "track tires" but just a set of high performance summer tires? I'm looking to save some cash. Wondering about the Sumitomo HTR Z III's in 255/40 17 for $104/tire, or the Sumitomo HTR Z II's for $85/tire, or the Dunlop Direzza's for $110/tire, or the Kumho Ectasa's for $103/tire.

Also need to see if these fit my 17" winter wheels. Thanks in advance.

Well I ran Kumho MX's last year, and they were pretty good. I just bought a set of Dunlop Direzza Z1's for this year, since they got the best ratings for what I was looking for. Plus the dunlops have a very stiff sidewall, which I think will provide a stiffness closer to the RFTs that the stock suspension was designed to work with. First track day on the Dunlops will be March 14th. I'll be sure to post an evaluation after that weekend.
