I am trying to use the mirror tap method to power my radar detector. I'm having trouble figuring out where to plug in my wire for power and for the ground connection.

Does anyone know which color wire is for 12v power and which is for ground?

I tried using the green/white cable for power and the brown/black cable for ground but this didn't work. I appreciate any help

try the all brown cable for ground, usually just brown cables are usually ground, i mighr be wrong but for my retrofits, ive used just brown for ground, good luck

That looks a lot like the standard bmw 10 pin connector that has been in use since the mid 90s

This pin out of an e46 mirror might give you a place to start testing for voltage.

Seems about right but it’s been 20 years since I did a 10 pin x3 mirror in my 3 pin e34 wagon years ago amd had to adapt to the 10 pin amd drive the stubby clown nose from the aftermarket alarm.


“ 1) After some research: There is a 10 pin capacity female connector in the E46 auto-dimming/ LED mirror. See pic. However, there are only 9 pins in the connector of which only 5 are needed to use the auto-dimming/ LED function. (No idea what the other 4 are used for).

Auto Dimming Function
Pin 1- Reverse Lead
Pin 3- Switched 12V
Pin 10- Ground

LED Function
Pin 8- LED Pos
Pin 9- LED Neg

2) If someone cut the E46 wiring harness and provided you the male side of the 10 pin connector, the wire colors associated with the pins are as follows:

Pin 1- Blue/ Yellow
Pin 3- Green/ White
Pin 10- Brown/ Black

Pin 8- Red/ Black
Pin 9- Grey/ Black/ Yellow”
