Can you tell any difference with the MHD map option? If so what is the change(s)? I have an N55 and they haven't released the option for my engine yet, so just curious what to expect.

Yes, I've noticed changes. My biggest gripe thus far has been very rough 2-3 up shifts at very light throttle inputs in M mode - cured with latest file in my experience.

Downshift blips are not as aggressive in XHP v1.1 vs v1.2, but in my opinion v1.2 was over exaggerated and far to clunky/jerky in many situations. v1.2 was a downgrade in almost every aspect of drive-ability as far as I am concerned.

It will be interesting to test v1.2 w/ the latest MHD OTS map to see if any of that was to be blamed on the DME code.

There are reasons I chose the Stage 3 calibration over 1/2, but there are things I wish it did not do. When in D for example I'd still like Stage 3 to start off in 2nd gear most of the time. I don't appreciate that final downshift into 1st most of the time when in stop and go traffic.

I've noticed that even with XHP if you peg the pedal to the floor - engaging "kickdown", asking for an upshift via a paddle does not induce one.

So you think v1.1 is better ?

Other than the jerk forward on downshift - anything else bad ?

I was at the track 2 weeks ago and i was getting hard shifts from 3 to 4 under WOT.

also was having some difficulty downshifting in braking zones. where i needed to get down to 2nd or 3rd, it would change on the LED display but then not actually downshift, or it would double shift, guessing i was low in the rpms so it was in the process of downshifting but the display has not yet changed so then it would do 1 auto and then add mine on top of it so then im just below redline and then get limited when i get back on throttle.

found S mode better that day for the track. looking forward to updates 335d specifically.

I think you just choose the wrong stage to flash, the Description on the app says stage 3 is "race inspired" and caters to the person who wants performance over all other things. Not comfort focused, and not as street use focused as stage 1/2.

Stage 2 might be a better flash for you, as its described by XHP as "The sport setup is made for people wanting the most from their transmission on street use"

you mention the car upsetting you in traffic and on the street so maybe that flash would better suit your application?

But what sucks is that he already paid for stg 3, so he would have to pay for stage 2 again?

Is there a flash that will improve gas mileage? Thanks!

Funny! Seriously though, if there us a difference between the two it would be nice to know. I understand that xhp stage 2 is the best for street applications and was wondering if there was an optimized flash that happened to increase gas mileage as I commute 63 miles rt daily m-f.

You might like the Alpina flash. It has decent S & M modes and D mode is almost overkill for gas efficiency. I myself found Alpina not sporty enough and switched to xHP Stage 3, but I'm not to worried about gas mileage.

Entirely valid point. I had to take a gamble with Stage 3. It sure would be nice if you pay for stage 3 you have the option to try the "lesser" stages at no additional cost.

I'd have to double check the descriptions but one of the reasons I think I went with stage 3 was b/c it eliminated the auto upshift in M mode.

Although, at the end of the day it is an automatic trans with 3 modes - D/S/M. I should be able to have comfort in D and "stage 3 performance" in M. I guess that is where custom tuning will come in.

Made a bunch of changes on the Dme and v1.2 stopped lunging / jerking forward.

This made me believe the Dme tune is causing the problem for some.

This, since each stage is progressively more expensive, stage 3 should include stage 2 and 1 and then you could try them out, not like you can use more than one at a time and might stop the stage 3 complaints is people tried stage 2 and liked it, but no way I am paying more for a lesser stage.

This is stupidly complicated. Where do I buy these things I've never heard of? It sounds like I need a snake's nest worth of cables and half a dozen separate programs. WTF...someone make a package that JUST WORKS please. Crap this is intimidating. I don't have time to get a degree in BMW hacking. I already work full time, lol.

Actually, it's really simple:
  1. Read the manual in advance from www.xhpflashtool.com
  2. Buy a proper INPA Cable, either from www.bimmergeeks.net (if you are in US) or from www.bimmer-connect.com (if you are in EU)
  3. Download the app to your Android device and connect the App to your car and store the vehicle
  4. Visit the Shop inside the app and buy the "General Flash License" + your prefered map. It will list the compatible Maps on top, as soon as a vehicle is stored.
  5. Set your device to flight mode and just follow the instructions on screen. The process is Backup -> Install -> Flash
  6. If you run into problems, contact us on Facebook (for the fastest response) or over E-Mail, we will support you.

Wow, you work full time! It must be devastating and you must never have time. I heard that it's harder than purchasing/sourcing multiple BMWs with varying transmissions, swapping those transmissions as needed, gathering the BMW tools, cracking into the TCU, understanding how the transmission works, creating tables to make it easily for people to tune it, spending thousands of hours testing and modifying those tables, learning how to code an android app, doing QA testing on the transmission using various android devices, spending months finalizing the system, creating documentation on how it works and how to use it, coming up with multiple version, publishing it all to a website and maintaining social media pages, going through legal process for a business establishment, releasing the app and going live, thousands of people download it, supporting those users, fixing bugs, coming out with improved versions, and responding to people like you with a step by step guide.

You need:

- One cable (BimmerGeeks Pro Cable + OTG)
- One Android app (Xhp)
- One Bmw
- One credit/debit card with funds on it

Those 4 things & a few minutes of your time & your flashing your transmission.

With the latest MHD update (where mhd announced they have been working with xhp etc) - anyone experienced a much quieter throttle blip in M since flashing with the latest from mhd ?

Especially those on v1.2 stage with a custom MHD map.
