Rough idles and misfires

So last week I got a random code "P112F". So then I reset it.
then a day or two after that, I received 2 codes "P112E & P112E P/D"
Which was a rough ride, So I reset it with the OBD scanner and went away and Drives perfectly normal.

Until today, I'm driving and get the Engine Malfunction. Driving a little rough, and whenever I come to a stop or a slow roll, You can hear the engine reving up and down by itself and idling rough, and acting twitchy.

I've experienced this before from last year because it was from the spark plugs.
And the only way I knew was from the code I got, telling me it was a misfire on cylinder 5.

But now, my car is acting up but with no codes or anything. I drove with it for 30 minutes and nothing was showing up.

*I'm going to put this out there, I think It's the coils. But I don't know. I've never switched them out yet.

someone let me know what you think, I feel like it could be also the fuel injectors, who knows...

How many miles? Coils are pretty much a maintenance item.

Ive had those codes. The p0174 got resolved by replacing the O2 sensor on the left side of the engine. As to the misfires, i would suggest changing the 02 sensor first, then you can diagnose the misfire, because this sensor can set the misfires as well.

There's two 02 sensors right? one for Bank 1 and Bank 2. You think I should replace both right?

whats weird is that, after clearing off the codes from the OBD scanner. I started up my car and the codes didnt show up, I let it idle for 5 min and then went for a 10 min drive and the codes never came back up.

Drive it for at least 100 miles.

The codes should pop back up by then. Also, the codes you gave me are pretty generic. Try going to an Indy shop and ask them to give you the DME codes, these codes are more details, and can tell you more.

Try getting the DME codes before replacing anything for now if you can.

Alright thanks, my car has been running great with no issues for a year and a half. Of course, when I decided to plan to sell my car by next month this has to happen lol.

When was the last time you guys changed plugs and coils? I had all the multiple cylinder misfire codes and rough idle which was fixed by replacing the coils and plugs.

P0171 could be a vacuum leak. Check your crankcase breather hose and oil separator as these are prone to cracking/leaking.

Last time I changed my spark plugs was 15k miles ago because it had rough idle and misfire, but I haven't changed my coils yet. Which I probably should.

I had some of these same issues.

I replaced coils, plugs, injectors to no avail.

Finally, had the dealership replace the HPFP under warranty and the car runs amazing now with no issues. Not saying that is definitely your issue, but to start having that many misfires all of the sudden, seems it could be the culprit.

I was logging my performance through the JB4 and you could clearly see that the PSI from the HPFP was not keeping up at higher RPMs and I was misfiring.

Also, I had EXTREMELY rough cold starts. Stumbling for over a minute to the point the car would sound like it would turn off...

Good luck!

Thanks, but so far I haven't received any codes yet for about 2 weeks after the incident on what happened to me. I've been driving it and waiting to get some codes, so I can go to a local shop and do the DME codes or whatever.
but so far its been running fine. No more misfires as of now.

Sounds like a vacuum leak, try cleaning your map sensor as well they get dirty and can cause issues but I'm leaning more towards a vacuum leak

Just bought my first BMW, 320i e91. I've just had all my coils and plugs changed and still get code P0301 (cylinder 1 misfire) showing. Also i'm getting code P013E (O2 sensor rich to lean). On start up and regular driving its fine but as soon as i need to give it some beans to join a motorway or overtake it just misfires and looses quite a few BHP's and runs rough for about 5 minutes. CEL light comes on flashing at me but this all lasts for about 5 minutes while driving and eventually clears itself, mystery!

Stealers quoted me £150 to just look at it, i'm sure it can be FIXED for that, just need to find out what the issue is, any ideas?

P-0174 was the crank case breather hose on mine. Symptoms: occasional misfire and rough idle; sometimes the engine would die at low RPM, especially if pushing in the clutch from just over 1000rpm and releasing the gas (the sudden drop would be too much), poor fuel economy: sometimes I'd get a code, sometime I wouldn't.
Resetting the fault on mine was not really resolving the issue, it was just giving me a false sense of "the issue went away". I have learned on these cars that nothing really goes away. I eventually found the leak on mine by using a shop vac to blow air through the intake. The hose separated into two pieces when I took it off. I'm surprised the car even ran with the hose split that badly.

Clear the codes and wait for it to misfire again. If it still the same cylinder it is possible you have a leaky injector.
I've had misfires on all the cylinders and the O2 sensor mix too rich, for me it was a cracked valve cover and too much air was going into the engine. In you case, too lean might mean the reverse, an injector is leaking too much petrol into the cylinder. There are tons of good and detailed DIY videos on youtube on how to take the injectors out and check them.
DO NOT take it to BMW dealership. They quoted me 800£+ to change the bank1 O2 sensors. They said they will not investigate further until I change those. Turns out they had nothing to do with the misfires.
Ended up paying their 125£ for nothing. Find a good independent garage that specialise in BMWs for the stuff that you cannot do yourself.

UPDATE: So took my car to a BMW specialists who had the car all day, were unable to diagnose the fault and charged me for the pleasure. They even asked to have it back for about 2 days to do more investigative work. So before this i decided to take it to my local trusted indy that i have been taking all my previous cars to. They had it for half a day and diagnosed that the first garage i took it to installed cheap coils! So after a new set of BOSCH coils and another £300 later i am pleased to announce that it is running sweet as a nut. Now to take all the old coils back to the first garage to demand a refund, wish me luck!

So a lesson to be learned here.... BMW's have expensive taste, if it's not Bosch or better its not going on!

Sorry but I'm not sure. What I did is after what my car was going through for those 2 weeks with all the codes popping up randomly. for example, one day I would get 2 codes, next or a few days later I get 1 code and then 9 codes. I figured I would just wait until something actually bad happens to the point that it "needs" to go to the dealership and replace that specifically part.

Luckily for me, after going through a phase with codes popping up within those 2 weeks of misfires, horrible rough idles and etc. It all went away for a good month, after that I sold it lol.
