I want to activate the navigation on my retrofitted cic, but before i can do this, i need to update my cic software.

I entered the cic vin on the bmw update website and got the UPD01008.bin update file. But after putting this file on a fat32 usb stick and putting this thumb drive into the usb port in the glovebox and selecting software update in the cic settings, it doesn't recognizes the thumb drive.

What am i doing wrong? How can i install the cic update?

this update is for combox bluetooth function
cic can be updated only using diagnostic interface

if you are talking about getting your cic to C1A version, then that bin file wont help you.it
it needs to be updated via icom . D can wont help you, its slow and most likely fail. that how I messed up my 1st combox.

But for icom my cic needs an ethernet connection or am i false?
I retrofitted it to a vfl e92.

no, most CICes updated via MOST bus
only 2011+ cic headunit updated via ENET due the reason that there may be no MOST bus in car and cic have l2011+ firmware and wiring to OBD
